SoulCalibur V (Xbox 360)

SoulCalibur V is the most complex entry in the series to date. By incorporating some 2D fighting mechanics into its 3D weapon-based system, the game forces you to manage more variables than ever before. In short, this is not a return to the simple...

There's something that leaves me cold aboutSoulcalibur V and I'm having a hard time putting my finger on it.

I could complain a bit more about how I don't really have a character to fall back on in the roster, but that'd be reasonably petty. There's a big enough roster that you can probably find someone you like, and the few new guys are pretty interesting....

I love this fighting game renaissance we are going through. We're finally realizing that fighting games were actually good back in the day, so we are basing them off the glory days of yesterday. Therein lies Soul Calibur's biggest problem. It plays too...

The easy way to put it? SoulCalibur V is one hell of a good looking fighting game. The environments sparkle with detail and the animations are smooth and buttery. The downside? Some of the worst load times in recent memory.

SoulCalibur V

SoulCalibur has always been a flashy franchise - in more ways than one. When the original came out on the Sega Dreamcast, I was completely awestruck, and wasted hundreds of hours clanging swords and flinging people out of the ring

A fighting franchise smooths out the action and ramps up the excitement.

With the emphasis on player-to-player fighting, reliability over a network is essential, and SoulCalibur IV, the series’ first online entry, was notorious for early online lag. Tests suggest SCV is built on more robust network code, but as the full...

Review: Soul Calibur V

The fates and destinies of every soul are interwoven into the threads of time. Always starting and ending but constantly evolving and moving, the only control we have is how our destiny will impact those around us. We all have a choice in our...

Soul Calibur V Review (Xbox 360)

Fast forward many hours into the early morning, and we were all still in our living room, myself included, playing the game. Everyone had settled into a character that made sense to them, and overall, not one person was dominating the whole game the...

In my circle of friends there were some other items that were given mixed reviews. First of all, the lack of parries and reflects (typically executed by either forward+G or backward+G) was earth-shatteringly horrible to a few of them. In the first four...

Sex, souls, and swords; it’s hard not to find one of these pressed in your face during a heated SoulCalibur V battle, or at the very least when gazing upon the game’s Japanese marketing.

Does the Soul Still Burn?

Balanced, classic Soul Calibur gameplay; Ezio Auditore da Firenze; NOT Yoda; Flawless online play; Huge depth in Create a Soul; Take custom characters online

Story Mode, all of it; Classic characters replaced with clones

Does the soul still burn? Consider mine reignited by Soul Calibur V.
