Virtua Tennis 2009

Ushered to the world as an arcade game straight from the nooks and crannies of cinemas and many other arcade centers, Virtua Tennis was probably the first tennis game that worked as a whole. In its current form, Virtua Tennis 2009 (VT2009) is the...

Sumo Digital's latest isn't the revolutionary step in the franchise we were hoping for, but its refined looks and gameplay mechanics have deemed it fit for any loungeroom Federer.

A massive misfire.

Updated rosters

Everything else found within the game's disc and online service

You would think such a major bug (and exploit) would be fixed, right? The good news: you'll no longer have to re-do serves when you encounter the let first service bug. The bad news: you won't be re-doing them because the game will be frozen. How they...

Virtua Tennis 2009 (Xbox 360)

There's always been something delightfully cheesy and overblown about Virtua Tennis. The shiny bodies and hollow-eyed faces on its athletes never make it seem like they're straining for victory.

This review is based on a retail copy of the Xbox 360 game provided by the publisher.

The Exact Same Game 10 Years Running.

What a shame. Oh well, maybe next year. Or the next year. Or the next

A glass of champagne. Strawberries and cream. A doner kebab and chips. Well, maybe not the last one, but the rest are all the top choices of tennis fans when Wimbledon comes around. Suffice to say, when the tennis season is in full swing there will be...

This is still a solid tennis game but it is also one that offers almost no improvement over its predecessor. The controls are still easy and this is the perfect ‘pick up and play' sports title. Still, the single player is a long winded drag, with your...

Virtua Tennis 2009 (2009) on Xbox 360

Virtua Tennis 2009 was a disappointment for me. Maybe it's because I'm a rabid tennis fan and player and I wanted more from the series this year, or maybe it's because I feel like I've played this game before on the Dreamcast. Sumo Digital needs to...

Virtua Tennis 2009

The defending champion makes few unforced errors to wrap up another grand slam

Refined and polished ; Fun minigames ; Finally, online play

Being barred from tournaments due to clothes ; Overly familiar gameplay ; Not many new features

If you’re looking for one thing to justify upgrading to Virtua Tennis 2009 then online play is it. It's long overdue and it makes such a difference switching from the rather predictable AI to more fallible humans who are much harder to second-guess.

PES 2009

As a die-hard PES player I always get a tad excited around this time of year when the latest version of the ultimate football game is thrust upon us, replete with plenty of splendid improvements. However, this year was a little different as by now I'd...

In one word: disappointing. This is exactly what we don't expect from a PES game and considering the improvements made by its nearest rival it comes as even more of a surprise. Hopefully this will provide the kick up the backside needed for a complete...

Football, glorious football!

Pro Evo 2009 welcomes in a new dribbling engine that unlike previous instalments does not require you to use a set of fancy elaborate button presses to unlock the inner beast from within. Instead, players will do that naturally depending on their...

Virtua Tennis 2009 Review (Xbox 360)

I played Virtua Tennis for the first time nine years ago, and I ended up falling in love with it. I would play it in various arcade rooms, spending all the change I had to serve or keep getting served. My addiction only grew when the first console...

Easy to pick up gameplay. Good looking courts. Very arcade type of experience

Gameplay isn't deep enough. Lack of commentators. Game is too easy
