Buffalo BR-816FBS

Buffalo BR-816FBS review

By Robin Morris

The Buffalo BR-816FBS is an internal Blu-ray Disc drive, a repackaged version of the Panasonic SW-5584 able to write to BD-R media at eight-speed.

The Buffalo BR-816FBS produced some searing burn times in advance of any other BD drive currently available. Its £199 is at the high-end of the internal drives market, although for those looking to write to BD-Rs, the cost may be very much worth it.

LG BE06LU10

LG BE06LU10 review

By Robin Morris

The LG BE06LU10 manages to be not just one of the top speed Blu-ray Drives we've seen, but it's also competitively priced.

This drive ticks every box and then some. If you don't need external facilities, the internal LG GGW-H20L offers much the same for less. But otherwise, the LG BE06LU10 will prove a most convenient introduction to the world of Blu-Ray.

LaCie (300979EK) 16X DVD±RW Driver

A disc burner such as LaCie's d2 DVD±RW with LightScribe can burn some single-layer DVD±R discs at 20x - a huge boost over the 8-speed or quad-speed of many native, internal drives.

If you're looking for the fastest DVD burner for writing at 20x (single-layer) and 12x (dual-layer) speeds using compatible media, the LaCie d2 DVD±RW with LightScribe is an excellent choice. Less expensive 20x dual-layer DVD burners are available, but in

Plextor PX-B920SA

Plextor PX-B920SA review

By Robin Morris

Based on what we've seen so far, it's going to need a pretty impressive Blu-ray drive to beat the performance of Plextor PX-B920SA.

Any good Plextor drive comes with a steep price tag and, for an internal model, the £200 Plextor PX-B920SA is very far from cheap. But then, this is an extremely high quality drive that certainly puts its external competition to shame. It'll be very inte

Pioneer DVR 215

The Asus GeForce EN8800GS TOP is a cut-down graphics card, designed to undercut the 3870 XT - and, perhaps, to even start to rival the budget-priced 3850 Pro.

A slightly improved version of the DVR-115, the Pioneer DVR-215 does benefit from having a faster interface. However, it's still not quite up to the same level as the Samsung SH-S203. A firmware upgrade may give it some extra speed, but in the meantime, t...

LG GGW-H20L

The LG GGW-H20L is a dual-format drive for high-definition discs at a very competitive price.

The noteworthy price drop from its predecessor - along with its fast BD-R and BD-RE performance and its format-bridging abilities - make the LG GGW-H20L an impressive package overall. LG is even delivering this dual-format drive at half of what the compan...

Samsung SH-S203B

Samsung SH-S203 DVD writer

By Robin Morris

Both Corel PaintShop Pro and Adobe Photoshop Elements provide affordable, simple-to-use image editing capability. Photoshop Elements has always stood out as the leading software package for us but with Corel PaintShop Pro Photo X2, PSP is close to deliver...

The Samsung SH-S203 lacks the excellent security features of the LG GSA-H55N , but if all you want is a fast and well-priced DVD writer, you should consider this fantastic deal. You should even get a copy of Ahead Nero thrown in for the £19 price tag. An

LG GSA-H55N

The LG GSA-H55N DVD writer comes kitted out with SecurDisc technology.

You're in effect paying a £5 premium for the security features on the LG GSA-H55N, but even if you never use any of the SecurDisc facilities, this remains a very impressive model. As a means of securing your privacy and keeping tabs on the quality of your

Pioneer BDC-S02

If Blu-ray Disc beats HD-DVD in the battle of high-definition optical storage, you will need something to play Blu-ray Discs on. The Pioneer BDC-S02 is a decent solution, offering Blu-ray playback on a standard DVD drive.

Provided you have the right setup, the Pioneer BDC-S02 will make a good job of Blu-ray movie playback. But even given the significant savings over buying a Blu-ray writer, this is still an expensive proposition.
