With Adobe's impressive new Dreamweaver on the streets, can Microsoft's upstart Web editor hold onto its Editors' Choice?
Creates up-to-date CSS-based sites from Web templates; clear interface for building dynamic pages, now with PHP support; Photoshop and Flash integration.
No Secure FTP uploads; browser-based dynamic pages won't work in Safari.
As an upgrade, interesting mostly for PHP support; less powerful than Dreamweaver, but less overwhelming to use.
Nero 9 is the best multimedia suite we've seen, but is it really worth $100?
Simple, well-designed interface. Blu-ray burning included. TV-viewing software provides DVR features. Data-recovery tool. Gives good feedback about progress of disc burning. Burned DVD faster than Roxio.
Setup takes too long. Occasional crashes. Blu-ray authoring is problematic.
Custom playlist generation, high-definition video purchases, and a slick album cover view come to the latest version of Apple's benchmark media suite.
Genius feature adds custom automated playlist generation. iTunes Store now offers HD TV episodes for purchase. Diverse media store. Simple network sharing. Tight integration with iPods and iPhones. Nifty (if modest) Visualizer update. Still the only real...
Music subscription service still AWOL. No easy way to rip or transcode video content. Genius's recommendation engine doesn't approach the slickness of the best Internet radio streaming sites.

Pinnacle Studio Ultimate 12 maintains the product's position as the best tool for beginners, but it lacks some high-end capabilities.
Very easy-to-use main editing functionality. Great special effects. Good artistic effects. Good audio-related feature set.
Has only two video tracks. DVD menu templates are so-so. Third-party plug-ins require users to learn multiple interfaces.
It's a great tool for beginners, but Pinnacle Studio Ultimate 12 lacks the high-end functionality provided by other editors.

Click here to visit Adobe Photoshop Express Adobe Photoshop Express brings the industry-leading photo-editing app to the Web. Well, it brings the name, anyhow. What Adobe currently offers is a free Web site that provides users with 2GB of storage space,...
Intuitive, polished editing tools. Simple enough for novices. Excellent Facebook integration. Free.
Latency in opening, closing files. Some editing tools are missing. Can't print images.
This site is definitely worth a look for people interested in editing and sharing their photos, but currently, only a small subset will find it useful.

Put together some of the best apps we've ever seen in the world of computer graphics, from Photoshop to Flash, and you get Adobe's impressive Creative Suite 3--all six versions of it.
Excellent values. Top-notch programs, strong integration. Improved Adobe Bridge. Adobe Device Central for previewing mobile content. All apps are available as universal binaries.
It's not cheap, and the cost savings on the Web Standard suite isn't on a par with that of the other five versions.
Just getting the former Macromedia programs integrated would have been a major achievement, but Adobe has also managed to give each program significant new features and functionality. I strongly recommend the terrific values found in the Creative Suite 3...

Easy access to basic tasks from SmartStart. New data recovery tool. New 3D animated menus for disc projects. Expanded HD authoring and playback support.
Sometimes hard to find the right component. Inadequate help.
It doesn't have the sweeping integration of its modules some fans were hoping for, but the new component programs and interface tweaks add value to this venerable jack-of-all-trades media application.

For making DVDs, Roxio Easy Media Creator 10 lives up to its name, but it goes far beyond DVDs, showing iPods and cell phones some love, too.
Slick, Vista-inspired redesign. Quick access to basic tasks. Added support for iPods, cell phones, music DVDs. Automated music tracks.
Can still be difficult to find the right component. Inconsistent built-in help.
This bundle sports a polished new appearance and is more comprehensive and easier to use than previous versions of Roxio. It targets those uncomfortable with traditional authoring and conversion tools, but has task-specific components that will also attra...
Paint Shop Pro Photo X2 speeds photo editing, gives graphic artists more and better tools, and keeps Corel competitive with Adobe Photoshop and Photoshop Elements.
Nondistracting interface. Preserves originals. Express Lab speeds editing.Fun, useful Makeover tool. Merges bracketed photos. Layer Styles provides graphics embellishments.
Express Lab has no image sharpening. Some Express Lab features are nonintuitive and underdeveloped.
Paint Shop Pro Photo X2 is a good choice for photo enthusiasts who want to make quick corrections to their images, and graphic artists can also benefit from creative and practical enhancements to the program's toolkit.
Final Cut Studio 2 excels at just about everything a professional video producer needs--except Blu-ray support.
Very deep and comprehensive feature set. AVCHD support. Excellent motion stabilization. Color grading. Multitrack audio editing. Good integration of critical components.
Lack of output support for Windows Media and Flash. Multicam doesn't work with disparate formats. DVD Studio Pro lacks Blu-ray support. Mac only.
A complete and polished video-editing package that, with the exception of users who require Blu-ray capabilities, will serve any professional extraordinarily well.
