TomTom Go 740 Live

Can services make your satnav even better?

LIVE services, easy to use

Large, not pocketable

Our journey might have been brief (28 minutes according to the GO 740) but the new model, if you're on the road a lot of the time, looks very promising

Navman S100

Navman S100 GPS receiver

By Chris Hall

Does this redesign redefine satnav?

Touch user interface, simplicity of use, encourages you to do more than just navigate, intuitive

A little expensive

The S100 is convincing in its desire to give you more than just navigation. Get to grips with all the features and take advantage of the NavPix community and the S100 becomes a much greater travel companion

Navman S30

A to B via 3D

Fast location fix, easy to use, customisable display info, easy to set-up routes, price

Exterior design a little cheap looking, on-screen display can let you down at complicated junctions

The core elements of the S30 3D work well and the price is certainly appealing, but you get what you pay for

MAGELLAN GPS Maestro 4215 Europa

Will this guide you around Europe?

Big screen, 24 countries covered, latest chipset

Awkward interface, basic design

This is a decent satnav that loads quickly but the interface has been designed for a smaller display

Will this get you from A to B?

Advanced Lane Guidance, Bluetooth, screen, easy to use interface

Price

While you'll save some money on not getting the North America maps, if you aren't planning on travelling outside the UK this may be too much

Navigon 2110

Can this take on the TomTom XL?

Good navigation, clear instructions, lane guidance, signage depiction, integrated TMC cable

TMC extra cost in UK, menus a little convoluted

Great navigation solution at a great price, but a poor windscreen mount really disappoints.

TomTom GO 530

TomTom GO 530 GPS receiver

Better than the entry-level offering?

Advanced Lane Guidance, Bluetooth, screen, easy to use interface

Suction mount not the best that TomTom offer, traffic via mobile phone

While you'll save some money on not getting the North America and European maps if you aren't planning on travelling outside the UK this may be too much

NDrive G800

NDrive G800 GPS receiver

Can adding aerial photographs help you find your way?

FM streamer, photographic aerial images, multimedia functions

Menu interface fiddly, photographic aerial images don't really help

Does it improve your awareness of where you are? The trouble is, unless you've seen that city from the sky, not really

TOMTOM GPS GO 930 Traffic

Simple to use, much more accurate than TMC

Ongoing costs

If you spend a lot of time behind the wheel, then this is vastly superior to your TMC version. Ongoing subscription might be a problem for some

TOMTOM GPS GO 930 Traffic

Do you need the Rolls-Royce of satnav?

Great navigation, able to correct maps, lane guidance, user friendly interface, intuitive

Price, TMC cable irritating, TMC plug poorly designed, Bluetooth problems, remote control battery installation issues

To justify splashing out on the Rolls-Royce of satnavs you really need to know you are going to use these features
