A bit of Lux-ury?
Unusual silver design, deep blacks, lively and blur-free images, detail, Ambilight lightshow
Must be set-up carefully, erratic click wheel on remote control
The finest LCD TV around? The 42PFL9803H's use of LED lights behind the screen bring a cinematic brilliance as good as any plasma

Is this just style over substance?
Those CGI graphics
Obvious plotline, flat acting
Good for Blu-ray, but really only for the kids

Bargain of the year?
Low price, inky blacks, pin-sharp detail, kind to Freeview and DVDs, unique size for a plasma
Slight judder on fast camera pans
anasonic's 37-inch plasma beats its LCD TV rivals hands-down with both Freeview and high-def. And its price tag makes it impossibly attractive

Frighteningly bad treat for Halloween?
That frisson of twisted glee as you wonder whether this is really as bad as your eyes and ears are telling you
The fact that in this time of economic crisis, some people have and will waste money on this film
Simply the dullest, most ridiculous, most bloated, ineffectual, nonsensical film I have had the misfortune to ever savour

Will this let you get the most from your TV?
500GB of storage, easy to use, some nice features
Can't favourite channels, design is a bit niche, no off switch
If you aren't looking for a subscription based offering (i.e., Sky) then this is one to check out

Flattest of the flat
Stunning design, precise HD images
Limited connectivity, narrow viewing angle
A high-end screen in terms of style, this ultra-thin, ultra-clean screen does an admirable job at showing high-def detail - but a narrow viewing angle and unconvincing black levels leave it just short of brilliance

Something for the weekend?
Proof that comic films are following comic history and pushing for a smarter audience - setting us up ever so nicely for Watchmen
The need for an epic set-piece finale drags it into more conventional Hollywood fare
A striking and smart take on the superhero genre that will appeal to geeks and non-believers alike

Improvement on the first version or still a mad idea?
Picture quality, lightshow
Halo effect if technology tries to over compensate, you'll need to wall mount it and have white walls
The main barrier to ownership isn't going to be the price, but the fact you'll have to wall mount it and have a white wall to get the most from your new purchase

Angelina Jolie gets her guns out, again
Bangs! whooshes! guns! violence! Angelina! Highly stylised visual approach!
It's not exactly rocket science, but what outside of (insert techie NASA space programme science discipline here) actually is?
A dizzying headrush that falls well short of being Fellini, Wanted is an exhilarating, well-paced piece of mindless fluff that will keep your action movie hunger pangs sated for a decent length of time

Hot proposition for Christmas?
100Hz processing works well, colours, deep blacks, Freeview pictures
Lack of fine HD detail, build quality
A near miss for Sharp. Although it's as versatile as any other 37in LCD out there, its Full HD panel doesn't turn in a star performance with Blu-ray and other high-def material
