Wow - Great camcorder!

By Ryan

This is my first camcorder, so I don't have much to compare to, but the Canon HG10 has so many features, it'll take a while to figure everything out. The user manual is about 120 pages, but I hear that you can also download it off their website if you lik...

-Many options and settings -HD -large internal (40GB) HDD -if left idle for 5 min, it has auto-shutoff. -hand strap is nice to have. Would have been great if it came with the optional shoulder strap. In a quick browse through the user manual, I noticed th...

Should include HDMI cable, considering price. You can get HDMI cables for $5-10. No other cons that I can think of.

Very Nice Camera

By AMSmith42

I'm not familiar with the ins and outs of camera settings so I don't tweak things on the camera unless I have to. I didn't feel the need to tweak anything on this camera. You turn it on, what for the hard drive for a few seconds, point, and shoot. It take...

high definition, compact, ergonomic, decent battery life, good picture, external microphone connection (3mm), good zoom, easy to use

Built-in mic picks up everything the operator says. The video format is only supported through a hack in Linux and is very slow to convert. Not only are still pictures not very good quality (as is expected from a video camera) but I had trouble capturing...

Some serious drawbacks...

By br

Compact, sturdy, nice feature set, great zoom, beautiful video.

Software is barely worth installing -- lots of registrations and hassles. Will only copy video over USB with power adapter connected. Video is non-standard format.

Oh Yeah!

By minibeedog

10 to 1 Zoom is all you need the digital zoom is worthless just as I knew it would be

Very light weight..User friendly...Great optics...fair price. You get what you pay for. This video camera with an Imac and imovie 06 and imovie 08 a perfect match

Haven't found any yet.

Great HC Cancorder

By realmccoy

Besure to also purchase a extra battery the included battery last about 1.5 but takes hours to recharge. I would recommend this camera to any interested in buying a Harddrive based camcorder

Here is a list of the pro's HD 1080i Great Video Cannon Optics AVCHD Easy Learning curve

Included software is not good at all. Do yourself a favor and purchase a copy of Sony Vegas 8 it way better than the included software. * If would have been nice if Canon included a should strap.

Very Pleased

By H Motobuki

AVCHD is still pretty new, so the support isn't really there yet, but that really isn't this camera's fault.

Video and audio quality is extremely good. Camera is very easy to use.

Included software for AVCHD editing crashes on my computer. Have to use EDIUS instead.

This is my first camcorder purchase. Overall I'm very pleased with the product.

Lightweight, compact size. Excellent image quality ; replay through HDTV is awesome. Included DVD authoring tools are a plus. Quick file transfer to PC. Decent camera manual. Relatively short learning curve

Somewhat lengthy process to install and register the included SW tools. SW manuals are not well organized. Camera's low-light performance could be better ; just average. I wish you could take a still picture while in movie mode ; have to switch to camera...

Excellent

By N/A

Format is still very new. I tried to upload a video on YT but didn't work. I havent used the software with it so I don't know what it does but you will have to convert it I believe. It feels solid. Zoom switch is different but I love it. I like it being a...

Compact but impressive. I thought the size would compromise the quality but it is superb. This is my first HDD and first HD camcorder. Daytime quality is flawless. Some artifacts but barely. Low light is pretty good. I record house fires and I had one the...

No wind filter. Only on breezy or windy days it is bad but still decent. Menu is kinda annoying and the dial is ok. Takes some time to get used to but it is fine once learned. Battery life is pretty bad so get another battery. I haven't gotten one yet. Th...

Beware, the video is really 1440x1080 not 1920x1080

By Paul

I would have returned it if Newegg's return policy on this item allowed for it. Does not come with HDMI cable. A standard mini-HDMI to HDMI cable will work, no need to pay 10x extra for a Canon-branded cable. The included battery is pretty weak. Expect...

Decent picture quality in very well-lit situations but grainy in low-light (such as indoor lighting). Good frame-rate, saves avchd format on HDD which can be copied to PC and played without conversion ; The videos it produces work fine with Kdenlive on Li...

First the big con: It does NOT produce 1920x1080 videos. The actual video files it saves are 1440x1080. The CMOS sensor may be 1920x1080, and the mini-HDMI may output 1920x1080 to TV, but that is meaningless because it doesn't save that resolution on disk...
