Nikon D700

Camera reminds me old days Nikons - heavy duty, well built camera. Very decent design with room for a few improvements: better grip shape, mentioned earlier CF door and connection rubber door as well. The camera has great potential though IMHO it is tar...

1. The biggest one - AWB is far from perfect, more in tungsten low level light ; 2. Skin tones - to achieve decent looking skin tones switch to Dx2 Modes or new Portrait profiles, Standard will give odd looking tones ; 3. Several times I've accidentally o...

This is a cost reduction and size reduction of the rule-changer D3. I use the D700 mostly for sports shooting (hint: not all sports events are run outdoors in bright daylight). I have shot around 10K images on the D700 so far. My previious camera is a D2...

Occasional problems with Tamron 28-300mm/VC lens which requires power off-on cycle to clear. Haven't yet tried to resolve this, it doesn't occur often enough to be a show-stopper.

Just outstanding image quality- staggering. I had a D300 and D200 (and G9) and traded the D200 for the D700. The added display lines on rear LCD when the 'Info" button is pressed twice makes for such a friendly interface! It make Custom Settings and Shoot...

I still wish Nikon would change two things- these are really not "Problems Encountered" per se, but ; I wish that all assign-able functions could be mapped to any of the 3 buttons in any combination. You can not, for example, map the Preview Button (Pv) B...

The camera is breathtakingly good, especially in low light. At that price, it had better be--for many people, a D90 or D300 will offer better price/performance. I decided on the D700 because I already had a Sigma 12-24 and Nikon 24-120 VR lenses; if I ha...

Construction is 4.5 instead of 5.0 only because of the flimsy rubber access door for the USB cable. Ease of use is 4.0 instead of 5.0 because of the immense size of the manual, and because a few features that I use fairly often (such as LIve View) are mor...

After a month and several hundred images, I am very pleased with this camera. I came to this from a Canon 1D Mk III and have zero regrets about making the switch. The UI just seems a little more natural and easier to make the normal changes we make in the...

I moved to FX (D700) primarily because I can use the superior new lenses that have been launched by Nikon recently, notably the 14-24mm, 24-70mm. The results are simply outstanding and well justifies the investment. I would also retain the DX (D300) wh...

Key issue is the weight of the new lenses you'll need to lug around if you want to ; maximise the use of the D700 - it can become a challenge to carry around the 14-24 ; 24-70, 70-200 glass + accessories. With the D300, you could get away with just the ;...

Hey Compass, the built in flash is used to trigger slave units, Yes slave units. A flash is better than no flash - a good backup if your main flash breaks or malfunctions - yeah! A pity you didnt know that, shows up your lack of knowledge. A great camera...

I've been waiting for a 5D MkII, wanting a full-frame but without a grip, some weather sealing, dust control, a big LCD, great high ISO performance etc..This is it! It's my first DSLR so I can't compare it to anything else but it's the business. With a 50...

Compared to the rest of the camera, the CF door's a little too easy to open accidentally and the joystick feels flimsy. Every chain's got a weakest link I guess...

Picture quality is great, especially on night skies (M57 with a AFS 300/4 without tracking at ISO3200, only little bit of noise). Great for macro. Set ISO to 800 or 1600, f11 or 16 and fire away. It's just too easy.

The artificial horizon works only left to right. You soon wish it would work front to back too if you shoot lots of wide angle. So i still have a bubble level on the hot shoe. The CF compartment isn't as good as on the D200 (opens too easily by accident)....
