A usefully powerful flashgun in a small package. Very good battery life as well.

Nowhere near the versitility of the SB -600 Eats batteries - make sure you have spares with you!

Plugs straight onto the D40x, or can be used off-camera for more creative effects. Fairly rugged, easy to use, lightweight. Almost instant 'recharge' so can be used many times in quick succession.

Possibly a bit more expensive than it might be - the gap between the SB400 and SB600 is a little hard to quantify.

Small neat and easy to use and fairly unobtrusive.

Obviously due to it's size it does lack power some what, but once you learn to adapt it can be a useful light unit.
