I have my Sony KDL40W4000 connected to Cable by scart lead, a Sony DVD/HD recorder by HDMI and my original Pioneer DVD/HD recorder by Scart. This gives me 3 Freeviews and Cable TV with the option to record Cable and 1 Freeview or 2 Freeviews at same time....

I think there are too many options available for every set up on picture, sound, colour etc. Although the manual does explain them there is an assumption here that you know what the writer means, i.e. not quite basic enough
