Cheap quality, buyer beware. Mine stop working completely after less than 3 months, and had to send it to the manufacturer for repair or replacement.
Review
For the past 2.8 months I would have given this unit a 4.5, but it just broke down on me, Walmart won't warranty it past 30 days, and the manufacturer is making me send it back to them, instead of sending me a new one or replacement in the mean time while it is getting fixed or replaced. It just stopped being able to read movies in the middle of watching one, and gave the following error message:
...Disc Error
...Please Eject the disc
...Playback feature may not be available on this disc
This happens with every disc I try.
Thus in my opinion it is a cheap quality product, and looking on-line, I've seen a few others already having the same or similar issues with this unit.
Solid performance. Plays all my Blu-Rays without problems. Picture is Perfect.
Bright and Sharp(LCD) Deep and Natural(plasma). Load times are good. DVD upconvert brings new life to DVD's. Low to no noise during playback. Never Freezez. No upgrade to 2.0 but thats ok. 7669 does not work. Very basic player that gets the job done.
awesome, when it works. uh, cool blue glowing light.
Cons
firmware not upgradable. freezing on some disks.

i have the Magnavox NB500MG9 and not really happy with it. couldnt play The Strangers, disk froze at the same point about 1/3 through. returned disk, same thing. couldnt even advance to next chapter, i had to buy the regular dvd. ha ha, i have a bd player but have to watch the regular dvd version, how bad does that suck?!?! had same problem with Firewall. does anyone know is that because of the outdated firmware? i think it probably is but any info would be appreciated. i dont think its a hardware issue because i will see it freeze at the same point several times. reboots and it still freezes. also, it never froze on any dvd's even scratched ones.
i emailed funai about firmware upgrade and waiting for reply, but know what its gonna be. their gonna bascally say my player is disposable and there not releasing any upgrades. i didnt know that the firmware was such a big deal when i bought it or i would have got the ps3. never buying magnavox again. LAME!!
a disposable non-upgradable blu-ray player gets a .5, thats it, no argument.
No optical out (coaxial out works great though), remote looks cheap
Review
After turning off the black level (press mode on the remote) and the color adjustments (in the menu), the picture is perfect. The sound is great, too. The unit does not have an optical out for audio. But it sends DTS and Dolby Digital 5.1 through a coaxial output just fine. Since my receiver decodes those, but none of the newer audio codecs, it works great for me. If you want to use one of those newer codecs, this player will still work. You will just need to route your HDMI through your receiver.
The remote looks very cheap. Like one of those $15 DVD player remotes. That is not a big deal for me because I use Logitechs Harmony 550, which works with this player perfectly.
I bought mine for $200 after $100 Walmart giftcard. For that price, it's the best blu ray player value. I see no reason for spending more on other players.
Cost, Easy to operate, Plays all BD Dvds, great sound
Cons
Cheesy, looks low-rent
Review
I love this Blu Ray DVD player, the picture is great, the sound (using my HDMI cable) is great. For the cost you can't get a better product. I don't like the low-rent or cheesy look to it but the cost more than makes up for it. I also got mine for $200 with the $100 walmart gift card. I bought 5 BD DvDs with the gift card so everything worked out great.
No optical cable option, isn't the best looking thing in the world.

I got one of these on "Black Friday" and so far it has worked fine. I don't plan on using it for anything other then standard and BD discs. Can't expect to much at this price range and something that is not the latest and greatist. For the money I think it is great. It will end up in my bedroom before long when it is replaced with something more highend. But it has been a great way to get my feet wet as far as BD discs go without spending a fortune. They were selling the same model at Sams club for 198. I think it had a S-video hook up though.
No ethernet port for bd live and firmware upgrades. No optical audio out either...

Other than no ethernet port it seems to be exactly what i wanted. Great price for a 1080p player. Color seems great for dvds on my tv when in cinema mode. tho i may need to turn off the hdmi black level through the menu
