Netgear RangeMax Next Wireless-N Gigabit Router WNR3500 Networking & Wireles Review

Good long-range performance; strong firewall ; Very good setup and Web utilities

No WPA-Enterprise encryption or RADIUS server supp ; No USB port; vertical orientation only

This workhorse router had very good performance and great software, but too few features for the price.

Netgear RangeMax Next Wireless-N Gigabit Router WNR3500

This Netgear router performed well, is easy to set up, and supports wireless range extension--but it's somewhat awkwardly designed and lacks enterprise encryption support.

Wireless range extension ; Well-designed setup software

No WPA Enterprise support ; Awkward upright design

If you want a good gigabit router with wireless range extension to cover larger office areas or a big house, the Netgear WNR3500 is a safe choice

Netgear RangeMax Next Wireless Router

If you want to buy a draft-n router now, the RangeMax Next is your best choice, with very good features, setup, and ease of use, and reasonable performance.

Great design and usability, Very good routing features

Poor long-range performance ; no QoS support, Only 90 days of free phone support

Netgear WNR834B RangeMax Next Router review

Editor's note: In light of the recent adoption of draft 2.0 of the 802.11n spec, we began retesting the draft 11n routers from earlier this year. Although speed improvements were not a big part of draft 2.0, we've decided to report our new numbers as...

Among the Netgear WNR834B's benefits are satisfying maximum throughput, a slick design, simple setup, comprehensive documentation, and tight security capabilities.

The Netgear WNR834B is one of the more expensive new Draft N routers around, and it takes a big speed hit in mixed-mode environments. Also, you can't adjust its antennas, since they're located inside the case.

Though its maximum throughput is solid and its speed at long range is respectable, the Netgear WNR834B's mixed-mode speed is not. Save your cash until more Draft N routers make it through CNET Labs.

Netgear RangeMax Wireless-N Gigabit Router WNR3500

Setup and management of the Netgear RangeMax Wireless-N Gigabit Router WNR3500 router ($119.99 direct) is easy enough for networking neophytes to handle. And advanced features, such as its wireless repeating capability (which extends the reach of your...

Does wireless repeating. (Mostly) easy setup. Attractive

Mediocre performance. Dated UI. Bulky

With its repeater functionality, this device might be handy as a second router or a repeater in a large office, but mediocre throughput makes it hard to recommend the Netgear WNR3500 enthusiastically for home or business use.

Netgear RangeMax Wireless-N Gigabit Router (WNR3500)

Slow wireless performance.

Gigabit Ethernet switch

Poor 802.11n performance, doesn't play nicely with some non-Netgear branded 802.11n adapters, doesn't even work well with a Netgear-branded network adapter

The WNR3500 produced disappointing results in all of our wireless tests. There are better products available if you want fast wireless speed as well as a Gigabit Ethernet switch. It's also expensive!

NETGEAR RangeMax Next Wireless Router (WNR854T)

The airy box that surrounds the inner workings of Netgear's WNR854T wireless router certainly isn't the smallest we've seen. Its large size serves a purpose: it allows the unit's three antennas to hide inside. The WNR854T is an 802.11 draft-n router...

Good speed for streaming video, Gigabit Ethernet switch, keyword content filtering ;

Random drop-outs, had to restart after every settings change, worked best with Netgear adapters only ;

Basically, the WNR854T was more of a headache than a joy to use, but it produced good speed for streaming videos when it did work. If it was more reliable, played nicer with non-Netgear adapters and didn't restart after every single change, we wouldn't...

Easy setup, thanks in large part to the intuitive and responsive Web interface ; High throughput speeds ; Gigabit LAN ; Attractive antenna-less design

Range could be better ; No USB port ; Some advanced settings are absent

Netgear RangeMax Next Wireless Router review

While D-Link's Draft-N router and ADSL router are different designs, the two Netgear routers look identical. The RangeMax Next doesn't have an integrated ADSL modem, so it's better suited to sharing a cable internet connection.

Netgear WNR3500
