Canon DC100 review: Canon DC100

Canon DC100

Fast focusing, long zoom lens; solid image stabilization; decent low-light video; aperture- and shutter-priority exposure modes.

Fair-to-middling video quality overall; awkward navigation controls; poor still photos.

A basic, inexpensive DVD camcorder, the Canon DC100 is a safe, if unremarkable, choice.

Quick Camcorder Review : Canon DC100

Good for point-and-shooters, - Good still feature set

Lackluster video performance vs. the Canon DC100 and Panasonic VDR-D100, - Enclosed battery compartment, - Inconvenient control location

Canon DC100

The Canon DC100 features a modest 1/6" CCD with 680K gross pixels. This equates to 340K effective pixels in 4:3 aspect ratio, 450K in 16:9 aspect ratio with the electronic image stabilization (EIS) off, and 400K in 16:9 with the EIS on. The larger...

Above average video quality is countered by a lack of an SD card slot and poor quality stills on this DVD camcorder. A good option for the buyer on a tight budget.

Better image quality than we see on many low priced DVD camcorders, a few manual controls

No USB connection, no SD card slot, still images not that hot

OK

Definately an older style product ultimately usefull for homes with no idea about video recording that just want to film birthdays and christmas. Great for the kids first camera to learn on, not realy worth more than $200 in most electronics discount...

The only benefit is its 16:9 aspect ratio viewing and recording! This should be on every $500 camera.

Over priced. Its just another cheap DVD recording single chip cam corder to take on holidays and then throw out.

Terrible

Promises so much and delivers so little. Purchased a trusted brand from a trusted retailer, now neither Harvey Norman or Canon will take responsibility for replacing or refunding it. Worked for only two weeks, and has been in for repairs 4 times since,...

Good zoom, small, compact design

Has been in for repairs 4 times in less than twelve months, neither Harvey Norman nor Canon will take responsibility for replacing or refunding it! First the laser had to be replaced, then it stopped finalising disks, and the disk door stopped opening.
