Flip Video SlideHD

 

For better or worse, touchscreens are finding their way into nearly every type of electronic product: phones, netbooks, cameras, tablets...and now, pocket camcorders.

3-inch widescreen display is great for playback ; Very good video quality in most conditions ; 16GB of internal storage

Expensive for a pocket camcorder ; No still-photo mode ; Touchscreen and touch strip can be unresponsive

The Flip SlideHD is great for video playback, but its touchscreen is extremely frustrating to use when you're shooting video.

Editors' note: You may have heard that Cisco will no longer be producing the Flip camcorder products. However, as long as they're still available on the market, you may want to consider buying one anyway. If so, here are some issues you should consider...

Simple recording controls; 3-inch LCD; 16GB of storage; integrated FlipShare software remains excellent.

No memory expansion; no HDMI cable included; finicky touch-screen controls; pricey.

The Flip Video SlideHD is a tough sell unless you really want a larger screen for viewing and sharing videos on the go.

Flip's SlideHD reminds us of Rocky Balboa. Unfortunately, not the Rocky Balboa of the original Rocky or even Rocky II. Instead, we're thinking of Rocky III, where The Champ comes in out of shape and loses to, of all people, Mr. T.

The latest offering from Flip, the SlideHD, has all the curb appeal of a slick, portable media player.

Fun playback design ; Great FlipShare software ; Easy to operate

Limited features and extras ; Overpriced ; Lacks updated video quality

The SlideHD simply does not offer enough to recommend when compared to older and less expensive Flips, as well as competing pocket camcorders that shoot at higher resolutions, have more features, and come packaged with extra cables and goodies.

No options for expanding the memory, lacks HDMI cable, touch screen controls are finicky, expensive

We won’t recommend this just because the price is high and the features don't justify it. Remember, you pay extra just for the touch screen and nothing else.
