Samsung HMX-W300 Review

For anyone not willing to make a big investment in a hand-held camcorder yet, this damage-resistant, inexpensive, flexible device could fit the bill.

The HMX-W300’s main selling point is its price; which is never a great indication of quality. But value-wise, this thing is a steal. You will be hard-pressed to find another device that shoots stills and video underwater for $139.

Samsung HMX-W300 review: Samsung HMX-W300

Samsung HMX-W300

The ; small, slim rugged body lets you take it where other minicamcorders or your smartphone can't go. It's easy to use and has a few extra features that make it a very good value.

The W300's video quality -- in or out of water -- is only good enough for Web use and not much better than the typical smartphone.

The Samsung HMX-W300 rugged minicamcorder is a good traveling companion for capturing Web-friendly movie clips and photos of your next hike or beach trip.

If you're looking for a cheap, waterproof camcorder then your search is complete. Buy the Samsung HMX-W300.

If you’re planning to spend less than $200 on a camcorder, you can’t do much better than the Samsung HMX-W300.

This is a nice rugged camera that won't break the bank.

I love how this camera has held up. I've had it for quite a while now and it still looks new. The built in charger is nice, and it is really to use with one hand. It is about the same size as an iPhone 4. The camera is decent, but for $160, it's a steal!

I love how this camera is super rugged and will hold up well.

The camera is only 1080P, but it's decent.

"Worth twice the price!"

I bought this for my wife and I just before our daughter was born. It was to be a quick point and shoot option. I figured it was durable, so we could take it outside, to family functions, vacations, ect... It has outlasted its value 10 fold. The...

Strong, durable build

none so far! (fingers crossed)

"Won't work with HDMI cables and HORRIBLE Service"

I purchased this unit to be an inexpensive video camera to bring on family outings. Once I received the product and tried to test it out it was horrible. The product records fine and you can view the videos on your computer fine as well but, if you...

cheap, would be good except for the one major issue.

Does not play on televisions through HDMI cables.

HMX-W300BN, Samsung CS says yes to Lanyard hook. Yey!

Samsung's product support was very prompt and helpful regarding this inquiry, I would like to recall the previous neg. post indicating NO lanyard. Ref. HMX-W300BN user PDF manual pg.16 item # 14 supports indication of product lanyard hook.

Yes the unit does come with Lanyard attachment point

None thus far, except this feature should have been available in initial product feature listing rather than digging for user manual.

Very disappointed

Got tired of waiting for the boat from China to deliver the Panasonic HX-WA3 so I bought this as a refurb for $50 along with a Samsung 16gb class 10 micro sd card. My other camcorder is a Panasonic HC v700. Obviously the Panny knocks the socks off the...

Small size, turns on quick, supposedly waterproof. Use this in places you wouldn't take videos from a cell phone

This may shoot at 1080p but it isn't crisp at all. Viewing on an lcd panel 20" or larger you will notice edges are blurry

Very nice camera

-Although the software that comes in is useless (for windows 7 anyway), you can still extract images and photos using the default windows 7 popup options. -This device has its setbacks, but the pros outweigh the cons, and at this price range I cannot...

-Very high resolution, maybe too high. -It's got a built in usb connector, no cables necessary. -It's got a ton of options and settings. -Video + image for a very low price. -Photos are dramatically improved by using 'auto tone' in photoshop. (This...

-usb connector is extremely short, need an extension if you don't want it sitting directly on top of your usb port. -Images are kinda grainy, but can be fixed with 'auto tone' from photoshop. -Didn't come with memory card. Will not work without memory...
