Sony DCR-DVD101 Handycam

Not intended for enthusiasts or bargain hunters, the DCR-DVD101 is geared more toward the occasional user.

Convenience of the DVD format. Intelligent hot shoe lets you add a flash.

Poor video quality. Still images are small and of poor quality. No memory-card support; expensive.

Expert Review

Sony's DCR-DVD101 is the manufacturer's lower-tier offering to the DVD camcorder market this year. It ships with a 1/6-inch CCD with 680K gross pixels and a 10x optical zoom. While the DCR-DVD101 shares much with its fellows in the DVD camcorder racket...

Sony DCR-DVD101 Camcorder Review - Sony DVD Camcorders

At an MSRP of $895, the Sony DCR-DVD101 doesn't have a lot to offer besides its ease of use ability to record on media playable in conventional DVD players, but for some users this might just be enough. It offers a smaller CCD and smaller body than...

Sony DCR-PC101 Camcorder Review - Sony MiniDV Camcorders

The Sony DCR-PC101 is Sony's low end matchbox camcorder with an MSRP of $1,300 and a street price around $1,000. The DCR-PC101 is a disappointing offering from Sony. The DCR-PC101 does offer quality video performance however, it handles terribly, and...

Sony DCR-DVD101E

The Sony Handycam DCR-DVD101 is more compact and offers better low-light focusing than its predecessor, but this model remains an underfeatured underachiever for a camcorder in its price range.

Mini DVDs offer convenient playback ; Good night-shooting quality ; Relatively compact

Poor video quality ; Media expensive compared to MiniDV tapes ; Very basic feature set

Good quality and easy to carry

My husband bought this for me for Christmas four years ago.  I like that it is so small and light weight.  I also like that it records on dvds.  I don't like that you have to finalize the dvd in order to watch it on a dvd player.  Which means if you...

bad like a joke gone wrong

Being a sony and all, of course it is going to be insanely expensive, but also, being a sony, you'd expect it to have good performance to back up all those benjamins you lost. Not so here. The 120x digital zoom is unusually small for a camcorder, not...
