Sony Handycam DCR-HC85

The DCR-HC85 is easy to use and compact, but we expect better video quality from a camcorder in its class.

Simple user interface ; Clever night-shooting mode

Noisy low-light shots ; Poor battery life ; Mediocre stills

Stay away from this camera, it has quality problems.

The camera does everything great, except download via the firewire and USB ports.

The download ports break for now reason, and it takes too long to get fixed.

Good Quality, Easy to Use, Though Not for Budget-Minded (Part 5)

Part 5 in reviewing Sony's HC series camcorders. I don't sell many DCR-HC85 camcorders at my work, but it happens every once in awhile. Typically, the people purchasing the HC85 want the best resolution camera available from Sony. Not all the ...

Easy to use, manual focus ring, large 3.5" LCD screen, high resolution

Weak on manual controls, expensive, there are alternatives with Canon or Panasonic for less
