Sony DCR-IP review: Sony DCR-IP

Stylish and amazingly compact; innovative design; built-in flash and low-power video light; flexible low-light shooting.

Limited choice in editing apps for MicroMV video format; lens has fairly narrow angle of view; no accessory shoe or external microphone jack.

This Sony is a tiny, very cool camcorder for the well-heeled video hobbyist who doesn't mind some compatibility limitations.

Sony DCR-IP220

The Sony DCR-IP220 MICROMV(tm) Handycam is the world's first 2.1-megapixel CCD camcorder and offers 530 lines of horizontal video resolution to produce stunning video clarity and definition of even the subtlest colors. In addition to advanced video cap

The bottom line is that this is a good camcorder for home users and for those that want to snap the occassional still image or movie clip for email attachment. It's small and lightweight and packed with some great digital video features and has an excelle

Sony DCR-IP220 MICROMV

A fabulous all in one imaging device to replace your old camcorder and aging digital still camera.

Superior stills, Innovative design, Quality video format (MICROMV), High fun factor

Editing limitations of MICROMV

We captured (via FireWire) and edited the MICROMV format video using Sony's MovieShaker 3.1 editing software. Only Windows 2000, ME and XP are supported. MovieShaker has a conventional storyboard/timeline editor and an automatic movie creation feature...

Not the best, price too high

For the price, this camcorder is not that impressive. The pictures it takes in still mode aren't even that great. It's just out dated. I would not recommend this product because you can get a much better one now for much less money. I have used this...

MicroMV IP 220 Nightmares

I am extremely disappointed with the software bundled with the Micro MV camcorder. Pixela Image Mixer and Movie Shaker for Sony are so problematic, I have yet to successfully import a full-length video with it. After a few minutes, the recording stops,...

More than just a video camera

As a professed Sony Gadget Geek, I jumped all over this camera and pre purchased it before it was even available. I love this camera. I can take it on a trip and have 2MP digital video (60 min per tape) and 2MP digital pictures (saved to Sony's...

My story

I wanted a really small camera that did it all. I wanted something I could put in my purse that I could use for both video and still shots. I have 2 little babies and I only wanted to carry one small camera, but be able to capture the moment wherever...
