Apple iPhone 7 review: Time-saver edition

On the seventh day the designers rested. In came the engineers. And the master of controversy struck again. Apple is proud of the bold move of removing...

Built to the usual sky-high standards ; Class-leading IPS LCD in terms of brightness and color calibration. Less-than-stellar pixel density ; The 12MP camera produces solid photos, but its only tangible improvement over last year's camera ;...

On the seventh day the designers rested. In came the engineers. And the master of controversy struck again. Apple is proud of the bold move of removing the audio jack. But in pretty much every other aspect they've seemingly taken the conservative...

The iPhone 7 is a fantastic phone, but we recommend the 7 Plus.

iPhone 7 and 7 Plus review: Apple (mostly) plays it safe

Unless your hands can't accommodate it, the iPhone 7 Plus is probably the iPhone you're looking for. It takes the foundational improvements made to the iPhone 7 and packs them into a body with a crisper screen and beefier battery. While it might seem...

Top-tier performance ; Great 12-megapixel camera ; Improved battery ; It's water-resistant!

No headphone jack ; Same design, three years running ; New home button takes getting used to

The iPhone 7 and 7 Plus are at once the most technically impressive smartphones Apple has ever made and the most divisive. After all, they're excellent because of Apple's renewed attention to the basics: the speed, the camera, the screen, the battery....

The last-gen iPhone still holds its own

Compared to the iPhone 8, the 7's still a really solid choice for the right price.

The iPhone 7 still has the biggest key features you’d want: a fast processor, water resistance, a more durable solid-state home button, and still really good cameras with rear optical image stabilization. iOS 12 should help this phone perform even...

Lacks the extra speed and improved camera quality of the iPhone 8. No fancy Face ID or other iPhone X-type designs, which will likely spread to other iPhones soon in the fall. No headphone jack (an adapter comes in the box). No wireless charging.

The gap between iPhone 8 and iPhone 7 isn’t as great as you think, and for the right price, this is still an excellent pick if you’re not chasing the latest bleeding-edge iPhone and want to save some money.

Apple is expected to unveil 3 new iPhones on Sept. 12

This year's new iPhones have so much new technology, Apple appears to be skipping the "S" update altogether.

Apple iPhone 7

Apple's iPhone 7 is better than last year's model in almost every way, but it isn't quite as good as its bigger sibling, the iPhone 7 Plus.

Water-resistant design. Faster processor, brighter screen, and better cameras than last year's model.

The absence of a 3.5mm headphone jack is a big hassle, at least for a few months. Not all models are compatible with all carriers. Lacks dual cameras.

Comparisons and Conclusions There's a simple question this year: Are the iPhone 7's new features worth the headphone jack hassle, especially right now, when there aren't many Lightning headphones available and Bluetooth is still divisive?

Samsung Nexus S review

Editors' note: Since AT&T's Samsung Nexus S is nearly identical to T-Mobile's, we will focus mainly on performance differences for this review. For CNET's full analysis of the Nexus S series, including design and features, check our review of...

The Samsung Nexus S offers a brilliant display, decent call quality, and enough features to keep you busy. The Gingerbread OS offers usability improvements, and the stock Android is a welcome change for AT&T.

The Samsung Nexus S feels rather fragile, and it lacks a memory card slot and LED notifications. AT&T added no new features, and data speeds were slow.

The Samsung Nexus S brings a much-needed stock Android OS, Gingerbread, to AT&T. But eight months after its original debut, the handset feels underpowered and behind the smartphone curve.

Apple iPhone 7

Big news out of Cupertino today as Apple launched the new iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus smartphones... the fastest, most powerful, longest lasting phones Apple has ever made, not to mention some thrilling updates on the camera front.

The iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus Review: Iterating on a Flagship

The iPhone 6 was a runaway success by any measure. The A8 SoC may have been built on a temperamental 20nm process – something that dogged all other phone vendors – but for Apple it didn't matter. The iPhone 6 was the first iPhone generation with a...

Overall, I think that if there’s any phone that is worth 650-750 USD at its base, it’s the iPhone 7 and 7 Plus. If you’re upgrading from the iPhone 6s Plus you probably won’t find a ton of differences, but it’s still a significant step up in display,...

iPhone 7 Review

It's ironic, a new iPhone is usually the specter hanging over rival smartphones, but it's the promise of their unannounced successor that looms above the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus . Mauled even before launch by vocal criticism of Apple's decision to...

Excellent camera performance ; Finally water-resistant ; iOS 10 and the A10 Fusion are fast and smooth ; Display is beautiful

RIP headphone jack ; Jet Black is a scratch-magnet ; Your old cases probably won't fit
