Apple iPhone XS and XS Max review: Pricey but future-proof

For better or worse, the iPhone XS Max is just a massive iPhone XS. That's great in some ways: its 6.5-inch display is fantastic for watching videos and lining up photos, and there's a much better battery here, too. That said, only a few app and...

First-rate build quality ; Excellent performance ; Helpful camera improvements ; iOS 12 is fantastic ; Slightly more durable than the iPhone X

Still very expensive ; Minute design changes mean old cases might not fit well ; Incremental battery gains

But we need to circle back to our original question: Are either of these new iPhones must-own devices? The answer really depends. If you splurged on an iPhone X last year, you could easily skip out on this generation -- and maybe even the next one --...

iPhone XS review, updated: Great phone. Nice camera. But wait for iPhone XR

Apple's premium iPhone adds a few extras over the XR.

The iPhone XS has a markedly improved dual camera, delivering better photos than the iPhone X in both dark and high-contrast environments. It has a faster processor, faster face ID, adds dual SIM support and it’s now available in gold and 512GB versions.

Its battery life is the shortest of the three new iPhones and only incrementally better than last year's. Despite its still-rich price tag, key extras such as increased storage, USB-C fast chargers and headphone dongles will have you spending even more.

The iPhone XS adds some impressive camera improvements to the already-great iPhone X. But you should seriously wait and see what the lower-priced XR coming in October is like.

Apple iPhone XS

The Apple iPhone XS is a significant step forward for iPhones, but most iPhone buyers will probably prefer the XR or the XS Max.

Excellent camera. Powerful processor. Fast networking. First mainstream dual-SIM phone in the US.

Expensive for the size and feature set.

Bottom Line: The Apple iPhone XS is a significant step forward for iPhones, but most iPhone buyers will probably prefer the XR or the XS Max.

Apple iPhone XS Smartphone Review

My preciousss - Apple has stuck with its “S” nomenclature even after its anniversary iPhone and has consequently followed the iPhone X with the iPhone XS. As with previous “S” models, the iPhone XS is more a technical refinement of its predecessor than...

bright and color-true OLED display ; broad mobile network frequency coverage ; impressive main camera ; excellent craftsmanship ; eSIM support (per update) ; dust and liquid-resistant

non-expandable memory ; no headphone jack ; restricted NFC ; only 12 months warranty ; mediocre telephoto lens

The Apple iPhone XS is an exercise in fine-tuning. The device has not only a faster and more economical SoC than its predecessor, but it also has a more dynamic camera, larger storage options, an improved IP rating and OS improvements associated with...

Google Pixel 3 vs Apple iPhone XS

iPhone vs Android – it may not be the oldest rivalry in the tech world, but it is surely one of the most fierce, with millions of loyal advocates rooting for each side. But with competition comes innovation, and with innovation come amazing products --...

Apple iPhone XS vs Apple iPhone X

Apple shook things up last year with the introduction of the iPhone X, a phone that ushered the company into a new era of smartphone design. Its successor, the iPhone XS, is naturally superior in almost every imaginable way. Then again, its launch begs...

Apple iPhone XS and XS Max Review

The new iPhone XS and XS Max are the best iPhones ever, and they're also Apple's most expensive phones ever. Apple sure is asking a lot for its latest pocket gadgets. Are its products delivering with the same intensity, though? Is there reciprocity in...

Fancy design ; Outstanding OLED displays ; Unwavering system performance ; Superb cameras ; Incredible media & productivity apps ; Future-proof

Very expensive ; Display notch and camera bump

Apple iPhone Xs Review

In terms of the camera, the iPhone XS represents a fairly small upgrade from its predecessor. That being said, Apple has removed the iPhone X from sale – so if you’re looking to upgrade from one of the older phones, this is the model you’ll end up with...

iPhone XS or iPhone XR? Here's Your Cheat Sheet

The iPhone XR is a great value. For a more affordable $750, you get the same key features as Apple's super-premium flagships — camera, processor, Face ID — for less dough. And you get more colors to choose from.

The iPhone XS Is Forever

I'm sick of buying iPhones. For the past decade, I've been buying them and loving them and breaking them and losing them and replacing them and, when September comes along, upgrading them. Last year, it cost me over $1,200 to get an iPhone X, and...
