BlackBerry Curve 8520 review: BlackBerry Lite

With the Bold almost reaching perfection in the BlackBerry arts, new horizons need to be explored to keep the spark alive. The tall task to pioneer new territories (in BlackBerry terms anyway) falls on to the Curve 8520. The new Curve has a price tag...

2.46" 65K-color TFT landscape display of QVGA resolution ; Comfortable four-row full QWERTY keyboard ; Quad-band GSM support, Wi-Fi connectivity ; 2 megapixel camera with fixed focus ; 512MHz CPU ; BlackBerry OS v4.6 with responsive trackpad navigation...

Many features are unusable without a BlackBerry Internet Service account (plan) ; BlackBerry OS offers basic text-only submenus ; Mediocre camera performance and features ; No FM radio ; No 3G support ; No TV-out functionality ; Music keys are stiff...

The new Curve has a price tag that's easier on the wallet and - coming from a BlackBerry - that's a welcome change of game plan already. But what makes this here Berry a shocker is… wait for it… music keys. Last time we checked features like that were...

BlackBerry Curve 8520 (T-Mobile)

Mixing social networking and entertainment features with the familiar BlackBerry-brand business-centric tools, the lightweight BlackBerry Curve 8520 ($130 with a two-year contract; price as of 10/22/09) is a solid but underpowered addition to Research...

Useful dedicated media keys ; Responsive trackpad

No 3G data support ; Browser had trouble with some Web pages

Though it lacks high-speed 3G support, the Curve 8520 smartphone is a solid messaging and multimedia device.

BlackBerry Curve 8520 (T-Mobile)

Research in Motion refines its formula with the svelte BlackBerry 8520, an entry-level smartphone with one of the best keyboard and trackpad combos in the business.

Sleek form factor and accurate trackpad are genuine improvements. Near-perfect keyboard. Excellent value (providing you buy it at Walmart).

Very weak reception. Still no 3G or GPS.

Multimedia and Conclusions The 8520 is a decent media device. MP4 and AVI videos—including a 2-hour movie—played back perfectly smoothly. That's a benefit of the fast 528 MHz CPU. Music tracks sounded chalky and midrangey over a normally good-sounding...

BlackBerry Curve 8520 review: BlackBerry Curve 8520

BlackBerry Curve 8520

The RIM BlackBerry Curve 8520 features a responsive optical trackpad and dedicated media controls. The smartphone also offers Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, a 2-megapixel camera, and good call quality.

Lacks 3G support and GPS. You can only save downloaded apps to the phone's main memory.

The RIM BlackBerry Curve 8520 is a sleek entry-level smartphone that delivers some nice design enhancements and great performance. While available directly from T-Mobile, Wal-Mart offers the better value on the smartphone.

BlackBerry Curve 8520

The latest BlackBerry Curve has a few new design elements that set it apart from its siblings: namely there's a track pad in place of the track ball and dedicated music buttons at the top of the device for easy control over the music player. Simply...

BlackBerry Curve 8520

With the BlackBerry Curve 8520, RIM has done a good job of creating an affordable phone with all the right features, although you might miss 3G connectivity. Just make sure you get it in black.

Flat, responsive trackpad, QWERTY keyboard, Good social-networking apps with more available on the BlackBerry App World, 3.5mm headphone jack, Dedicated music keys, Black version is attractive, Rubber trim

No 3G, No camera flash, Low-end, 2-megapixel camera, Purple version is hideous, No GPS

RIM BlackBerry Curve 8520 – for first time smartphone buyers

Blackberry Curve 8520 Review

Nothing rational seems to drive RIM's judgement when it comes to developing new smartphones. In a time when manufacturers are trying to attract more buyers with new features, exquisitely designed devices and eye-candy interfaces, the Canadian company...

Even though is a mid-budget smartphone, there are a few positive things about Curve 8520 worth mentioning. The full QWERTY keyboard, even if it wobbles and is made from a very cheap plastic, it may become comfortable with a little bit of training....

Not being able to setup an email account without a payed Blackberry Internet service is annoying. Overall, the device looks cheaper than its actual price. It doesn't offer anything new, and only a small fraction of what it needed to offer. Other...
