The BlackBerry Pearl Flip 8230 for Verizon Wireless doesn't offer enough to draw folks away from the Curve.

Previews e-mails on external screen. Good 2-megapixel camera.

Slow 3G speeds. Bulky. Hybrid keyboard's time may have passed.

BlackBerry Pearl Flip 8220 (T-Mobile)

The BlackBerry Pearl Flip 8220 promises a lot of new features, but the buggy model we reviewed is far from ready for prime time.

Spacious, comfortable keyboard. Excellent camera. HTML e-mail. Six instant-messaging clients. Includes DataViz DocumentsToGo for editing Office documents. Music sounds good.

Very buggy. Web browser has serious issues. Call connection errors.

The RIM BlackBerry Pearl Flip 8220 features a brilliant internal display and updated interface. The smartphone continues to offer strong e-mail support and adds Documents to Go. Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and a 2-megapixel camera are also onboard.

The Pearl Flip 8220 doesn't offer 3G support or GPS. The SureType keyboard also takes some acclimation.

While its flashier siblings may overshadow it, the RIM BlackBerry Pearl Flip 8220 should satiate the appetite of flip phone fanatics by bringing in a clamshell design.
