Pixel 3 and 3 XL review: Google’s hardware takes a backseat to software

The Pixel 3 XL would be a superb big-screen phone if its notch weren't so polarizing. If you don't like the fact that this notch is bigger than rival phones and don't want to use the software fix to mask it, the Pixel 3 XL isn't for you. But if you can...

Brilliant display ; Powerful cameras ; Premium build ; Capable performance ; Clever Assistant features ; Cheaper than the competition

Not all software ready at launch

With the Pixel 3 and 3 XL, it doesn't feel like Google has made great leaps on hardware, nor is it making as big a splash as it did with last year's cameras. But it's definitely built a solid foundation for its software to shine on.

Google Pixel 3 XL review: Winning the game by rewriting the rules

Whether the Google Pixel 3 XL is the best Android phone is up for debate, but it's the most advanced Pixel ever, and that's what matters.

Incredibly fast and responsive. ; AI calling features are simply mind-blowing. ; The camera takes incredible pics even with lackluster hardware. ; Display is fantastic and a massive improvement over the 2 XL.

The notch is distracting and the design is bland. ; Camera could be even better with a dual lens. ; Battery life is just OK.

You need to ask yourself three questions before deciding to spend $899 or $999 on a the Pixel 3 XL:

Google Pixel 3 and 3 XL review: the best camera gets a better phone

Taking it up a notch

Radically improved screen ; Loud, clear front-facing speakers ; Excellent camera and wide angle selfie cam

Doofy notch ; Easily scratched rear finish ; Limited availability from US carriers and internationally

But if you want the best Android experience and the best camera you can get on a phone today, the Pixel 3 is it.

Google Pixel 3 XL Smartphone Review

Giant Pixel. Now in its third generation of Pixel smartphones, Google wants to tempt potential buyers away from its competitors with exclusive software features. However, affordable prices are a thing of the past as the Pixel 3 XL costs up to $999....

sturdy and stable case ; good cameras ; numerous LTE bands ; exclusive software features ; plenty of accessories ; colour accurate display ; no throttling under sustained load ; impressive speakers ; decent battery life

no face unlock ; some modern video features are missing ; expensive ; large notch ; mediocre call quality for a flagship ; inaccurate GPS

If you do not like notches, you can stop reading now. The Google Pixel 3 XL has a huge notch, which is already a step behind some of its competitors that have less obtrusive notches, in-screen fingerprint sensors and even a slide-out front-facing...

Google Pixel 3 XL review: Two months in...

I've spent my time with the larger Pixel 3 XL. From its notch to its performance, how does it hold up still after two months?

Two months in and I have to say the third generation Pixel devices are nothing short of amazing. Following some software growing pains, the flagship has come into its own. With the countless holiday deals going on (currently at least $150USD off the...

Pixel 3 XL Review: The Camera Phone King

Among big-screen phones, the Pixel 3 XL is the one to beat when it comes to camera performance and AI. The iPhone XS has a nicer design and more pure performance through its A12 Bionic chip. And the Note 9 has the Pixel 3 XL beat for productivity with...

Best-in-class camera ; Amazing Screen Call feature ; Swift everyday performance ; Android Pie makes life easier ; Improved OLED screen

Display dimmer than other flagships ; Battery life could be better

The Pixel 3 XL delivers the best camera on a phone, an immersive 6.3-inch OLED screen and the handiest AI features yet.

Google Pixel 3 Lite may come in two sizes (Pixel 3 Lite XL leaked)

Google may be planning to launch a cheaper Pixel 3 smartphone called the Pixel 3 Lite, and we've already seen of the phone . But it looks like the Pixel 3 Lite may not be the only new Pixel on the way.

There’s no word no word on whether you’ll be able to find models with more storage, how much the phones will cost, or when they’ll be available. I’m also curious to find out whether the Snapdragon 670 chip is powerful enough to handle all of the...
