HTC Wildfire S review

The Wildfire S is a compact handset with strong voice quality to match, but it's held back by a weak CPU.

HTC Wildfire S review: S-size droid

Mini phones are hot and HTC don't want you take Sony Ericsson's word on that. What started as a small niche is now a segment that keeps growing – and one that no manufacturer can afford to ignore. Sony Ericsson have just announced their updated mini...

Quad-band GSM and dual-band 3G support ; 7.2 Mbps HSDPA, 384 Kbps HSUPA support ; 3.2" 256K-color TFT capacitive touchscreen of HVGA (320 x 480 pixels) resolution ; 600MHz Snapdragon MSM7227 CPU, Adreno 200 GPU; 418MB of user-available RAM ; Android...

Poor camera performance ; No HD 720p video recording ; No shutter key for the camera ; No Adobe Flash player, Flash Lite only ; No Document viewer ; No secondary videocall camera

The whole S lineup by HTC is under clear instructions not to be too generous with the upgrades. The Wildfire S takes that almost literally but isn’t afraid to smuggle in something that’s actually worth it. In our case here, the screen is the major...

HTC Wildfire S (MetroPCS)

The HTC Wildfire S is an average, low-end Android phone for MetroPCS, and you can do better for less money.

Cute and tiny. Bright, colorful display. FM radio.

Low-end specs. Short battery life. Slow Internet.

Multimedia, Camera, and Conclusions There's a microSD card slot underneath the battery cover, which is very difficult to pry off. HTC includes a 2GB microSD card, along with 100MB of free internal memory; my 32 and 64GB microSD cards worked fine as...

HTC Wildfire S (MetroPCS) review:

Is this the beginning of a beautiful relationship? MetroPCS is the next carrier to get the HTC Wildfire S, a petite, stylish, and relatively inexpensive Android 2.3 Gingerbread starter phone. While it's already available for T-Mobile and U.S. Cellular...

The HTC Wildfire S is a beautifully built Android 2.3 Gingerbread handset with a decent 5-megapixel camera and lots of additional software features.

Without compatibility for MetroPCS' LTE network, the Wildfire S is stuck at slow-as-slugs 2.5G speeds. Its small size makes it trickier to maneuver the Web.

Despite its small stature, the HTC Wildfire S is well-crafted and easy on the eye. Unfortunately, a slow data network holds it back.

HTC Wildfire S review: HTC Wildfire S

HTC Wildfire S

The ; is a decent phone at a bargain-basement price. Despite its size, it's a full-fledged smartphone, which includes the user-friendly HTC Sense interface. For those wary of bulkier smartphones, the HTC Wildfire S offers a refreshing departure.

If you're used to any normal-size smartphone, this device is going to feel tiny. The small screen makes Web surfing, watching videos, and playing games tough. If you have large hands, steer clear.

If you can get past its small size, the HTC Wildfire S is a bargain for first-time smartphone customers with few-to-no expectations.

HTC Wildfire S (T-Mobile)

The HTC Wildfire S on T-Mobile offers a reasonable mix of features, speed, and power given its small size and low entry price.

Svelte design. Bright, colorful screen. Android 2.3 (Gingerbread) comes standard. Good camera.

Short battery life. Weak reception. Useless speakerphone.

Multimedia, Camera, and Conclusions My 32GB SanDisk microSD card worked fine in the microSD slot, which is located underneath the battery cover; HTC throws in a 2GB card to get you started. The standard-size 3.5mm headphone jack makes finding...

HTC Wildfire (Alltel Wireless) review

Editors' note: In this review, we'll focus more on the different features and performance of the Alltel HTC Wildfire. Portions of the Features section were from our full review of the unlocked HTC Wildfire , where you can also read about the phone's...

The HTC Wildfire features a compact and sturdy design. The Android 2.1 smartphone has a very affordable price tag and offers a 5-megapixel camera and full wireless options.

The Wildfire has a small, lower-resolution screen. The smartphone can be a bit sluggish.

For Alltel customers on a budget, the HTC Wildfire is a very affordable and decently featured Android phone, but it comes at the cost of screen quality and processor speed.

HTC Wildfire S for T-Mobile Review

Say Hello to the smallest offering I've seen in a while from HTC, this little device is small enough that anyone can carry it no matter how small the hands are. It would feel comfortable for your 10 year old, and would make a great starter phone too....

To wrap things up I’d have to give this device a thumbs-up. For a first time smartphone or first time Android user this would be the ideal device. Some might want something larger but for the size and everything you get it really is awesome. For...

HTC Wildfire S Review

Expectations around the HTC Wildfire S are, a little surprisingly, high. The third of HTC's new Android devices from MWC 2011 in February, the entry-level smartphone replaces the Wildfire , a device which managed to carve itself quite the niche among...

Back in our original Wildfire review, we concluded by praising the phone but saying we’d still opt for an HTC Legend. That didn’t seem to stop the Wildfire from selling well nonetheless, helped no doubt by a strong carrier push. The HTC Wildfire S has...
