LG G4 review: refined, but not game-changing

When LG cooked up last year's G3, we (and many of our contemporaries) fell in love with it. At last, a well-designed phone with a killer Quad HD screen a

Mostly great cameras ; Long battery life ; Has a microSD card slot ; Bright, vibrant screen

Bland design, aside from that nice leather option ; Trails its rivals in gaming performance ; LG didn't include its Quick Charge technology

LG's 2015 flagship has a lot going for it, including a lovely pair of cameras and a screen that promises to be the most accurate on the market. As solid as the G4 is, though, it feels more like an iterative update than what LG really needs: a truly...

LG G4 (T-Mobile)

The LG G4 for T-Mobile has a removable battery and a microSD card slot, but is held back by bloatware and heating issues.

Fantastic screen. Excellent camera. Removable battery and microSD card slot.

Bloatware-heavy. Runs warm when gaming.

Heating Issues, Software, and Conclusions Like the other carrier variants we've tested, T-Mobile's LG G4 has a tendency to run hot while performing processor-intensive tasks. Booting from a cold state, the G4 measured 79 degrees Fahrenheit by the...

LG G4 (Sprint)

The LG G4 for Sprint has useful features you won't find on other flagship smartphones, but its battery life isn't great and it tends to run rather warm.

Beautiful screen. Excellent camera. Removable battery. MicroSD card slot.

Mediocre battery life. Heated up quickly after gaming and intensive tasks while testing.

Software and Conclusions In terms of bloatware, Sprint's G4 is on pretty much on par with the other carrier models —meaning there's a lot of it . Of the 32GB of internal storage, the device has 20.01GB available. I counted 9 Sprint apps that I would...

LG G4 (AT&T)

The LG G4 for AT&T has a gorgeous display, an excellent camera, and features you won't find in most flagship phones, but it's laden with bloatware and tends to run hot.

Beautiful screen. Excellent camera. Removable battery and microSD card slot.

Lots of bloatware. Heated up quickly after gaming and intensive tasks in testing. Mediocre battery life.

Software and Conclusions The AT&T G4 runs Android 5.1 Lollipop and is rife with bloatware. Out of 32GB of storage, the device has 21.53GB free. I counted 22 preloaded AT&T apps, roughly half of which can be uninstalled. Non-removable apps include ones...

LG G4 review: This powerful, fast beauty takes too few chances

The powerful and fast LG G4 hits all the right notes, but does it have that extra oomph to usurp Samsung's Galaxy S6?

The LG G4 has a sharp and generously sized display, a bevy of camera controls and raw image shooting, a replaceable battery and expandable storage.

Though the phone's battery life is adequate, it doesn't last as long as its competitors. There are no significant new software features and its design feels uninspired.

Though it feels too similar to last year's G3, the LG G4 is an excellent big-screen smartphone that will appeal to budding photographers, and has old-school features missing from rival flagships.

LG G4 (Verizon Wireless)

The LG G4 has a beautiful screen and a terrific camera, but some heating issues can make this Android smartphone too hot to handle.

Excellent camera. Gorgeous screen. Includes microSD card slot and removable battery.

Runs too hot. Mediocre call quality. Lots of bloatware. Slower processor than competitors.

Comparisons and Conclusions The LG G4 needs to chill out a bit. While it's loaded to go for days with multiple batteries and memory cards, its heat problem and heavy bloatware load make it one of the less appealing flagships in Verizon's lineup. If...

LG G4 review: Killer camera, killer display, but not a revolutionary smartphone

With awesome manual camera settings and a removable battery, the LG G4 is one of the best phones of the year. It's packed with great features, but has LG done quite enough to match Samsung's best?

Best manual still camera controls ; Removable battery, upgradable storage ; Androidy UI, light on bloatware

No quick or wireless charging ; Downmarket design, except for the polarizing leather option ; Overall, a timid update to the G3

With awesome manual camera settings and a gorgeous display, the LG G4 is one of the best phones of the year. And depending on your preferences, it might even be THE best phone.

LG G4 ( gold)

Despite all its pros, however, the handset feels like a slightly tweaked, but ultimately repackaged LG G3 . Sure, there's a new leather-clad option , and there's nothing wrong with the G3 per se (especially when you retain everything we liked about it,...

LG G4 review

Equipped with a lightning-quick processor, big and bright display, and 16-megapixel camera that can shoot both JPEG and raw file formats, the LG G4 is a stellar device. It's also one of the most enjoyable LG handsets to use thanks to its interface's...
