Motorola Defy+ review

When Motorola released the first-generation Defy in September 2010, it was an unusual proposition: an Android 2.2 handset that didn't totally skimp on specs but offered water, dust, and scratch...

Cell radio reception is fantastic ; Great battery life ; More likely to survive being dropped into water than other phones

Motorola's skin causes lag and generally slows the phone down ; Camera could be better ; Doesn't live up to water resistance claims ; Screen sensitivity issues are very frustrating

It's not too defiant, but resists more than most handsets

Introduced at the end of last year, the original Motorola DEFY was a fun and compact Android model from the Schaumburg-based company. It managed to stand out from the crowd by being both rugged and well feature-packed. Among its key features, one could...

Motorola Defy+

One of our favourite phones of last year is back with a performance upgrade. Can this semi-rugged blower still hold its own a year on?

Waterproof housing is practical, Tough yet styish design, Screen is large enough for easy use

Processor is a bit sluggish, No button for the camera

Motorola Defy+ review

Motorola has updated its deceptively solid Defy ready for the Christmas smartphone buying frenzy – but has it done enough to make us want one?

Cleverly rugged ; Battery management options ; Impressive power longevity ; Media is well presented ; Low cost

Poor camera ; Small screen ; Unable to link contacts ; Tiny icons

Motorola's original Defy appeared in the spring and we were impressed with its rugged features, packed into a relatively sleek chassis.

Survives minor abuse, cheap as chips, great screen

Crashes a lot, slow, battery isn't great, huge Wi-Fi problems

The Defy+ is an odd one. It's rugged, there's no denying that. So logically, if you need a rugged phone, then this might not be a bad choice. But that's a long way off a recommendation from us, because frankly, there's so much other stuff that's...
