Motorola Flipout review: Fair and square

Motorola is banking heavily on QWERTY droids. The Motorola Flipout does look a bit of a shocker but fits squarely into the lineup. It's tiny, yet offers better features than the Backflip, and social networking is its element.

Exceptionally compact QWERTY messenger ; Quad-band GSM and quad-band 3G support (7.2 Mbps HSDPA; 2Mbps HSUPA) ; 2.8" 256K-color 320x240 pixel capacitive touchscreen; multitouch support ; Android OS v2.1 with MOTOBLUR UI v1.5 ; Excellent social...

Poor display quality ; QVGA resolution limits the choice of apps ; Unacceptable camera issues from a retail test unit ; Uncomfortable grip for taking pictures ; 17mm thick is a bit much ; No smart and voice dialing ; microSD slot under the battery...

We had a great time reviewing the Motorola Flipout, we really did. Almost all apps have been spiked with social networking and the music player alone is good enough reason to consider ditching your dedicated MP3 player.

Motorola Flipout review

It's always a risk to define a cell phone by its design; even the most unique and eye-catching handset must also be easy to use. Motorola tried to strike that balance with its new Flipout for AT&T , but ultimately the Android handset falls short. Like...

The Motorola Flipout has a roomy keyboard and a functional midrange feature set. Call quality is decent.

The Motorola Flipout's display is too small for a touch-screen smartphone. The speakerphone is disappointing, the 3G connection is unreliable, and camera editing options are few.

The Motorola Flipout exceeds on some levels, but its unique design doesn't do it any favors as a touch-screen smartphone.

Motorola Flipout (AT&T)

The Motorola Flipout is certainly unique, and not in a bad way; only its low screen resolution holds it back.

Very comfortable keyboard. Clear voice quality. Responsive performance.

Low screen resolution. Short battery life. Somewhat buggy.

Apps, Multimedia, and Conclusions Motorola has fashioned the Flipout as another Blur device. It's for social network buffs, not geeks or hardcore Android users. Blur lays down a heavy UI skin that integrates Facebook, Twitter, and MySpace updates,...

Motorola FLIPOUT Review

Now, hot on Sony Ericsson's heels comes the quirkier still Motorola FLIPOUT. With a 2.8 inch capacitive touch-screen and a QWERTY physical keyboard underneath, the phone seems to compete most directly with the X10 mini Pro, a handset aimed at the...

Motorola FlipOut Review

For a phone retailing for about Rs. 14,500 the FlipOut does work well when it comes to grabbing attention. While the likes of the HTC Wildfire, LG Optimus One and the Dell XCD series offer full touchscreen experience, the Android powered Motorola...

The small for factor makes it a bit more convenient to use, Touchscreen as well as QWERTY combo works for individual preferences, Surprisingly comfortable QWERTY keypad

Battery life of just a day, Screen resolution of 320x240 results in washed out colors, Disappointing 3.15MP camera only, when almost everyone, including even the sibling- Motorola QUENCH XT5 offers a 5MP camera

Motorola Flipout Review by Taylor

What's Good: Small size, easily pocketed; decent physical keyboard; fast for a 720 MHz processor, no lag; 5-row physical QWERTY keyboard; friendly price tag for a smartphone at $79.99 with a two-year agreement; great social media integration. What's...

A bit too small for some tasks; Android 2.1 instead of the current 2.2; MOTOBLUR is very obtrusive; display is a little pixellated and definitely low-end; poor battery life; on-screen keyboard is cramped; poor camera quality; signal was very sensitive...

The Motorola FLIPOUT is different than anything I'm used to, but it surprised me in quite a few ways. While it is assuredly a mid-range device, it offers a great web experience for such a small display, great social media connection, a nice physical...

Motorola Flipout Review - Android Phone Reviews by MobileTechReview

Motorola, particularly in conjunction with AT&T, keeps turning out novel entry to mid-tier Android smartphones. It started with the Motorola Backflip, a somewhat larger and more expensive mid-range handset that was AT&T's first Android phone. Now we...

Surprisingly decent keyboard, unique design, affordable

QVGA display is cramped and grainy, MOTOBLUR software clutters desktop

If you want a smartphone that doesn't look like everyone else's, the Motorola Flipout has its appeal. The hardware keyboard is surprisingly good and the build quality is solid. But the QVGA display holds this device back. That said, it's an extremely...

Motorola Flipout and Flipside Hands On [Video]

You can think of the Motorola Flipout and Motorola Flipside as companion devices for AT&T - both are aimed squarely at upgrading featurephone users into Android-land by wooing them wit...

We'll leave the 'flip' puns as an exercise to the reader, instead just telling you, as usual, that you can find more photos and a demo video of both devices after the break!

Motorola FLIPOUT

The rounded-off square design hides a five row QWERTY keyboard that rotates out from underneath, giving a fairly narrow set of keys with the slightly unusual feature of a row of number keys. Although the form factor is unusual, it is actually pretty...
