Moto Z3 Play hands-on review

A super-thin phone with good battery life? Motorola's Moto Z3 Play might just deliver.

Strong battery life claims ; Speedy performance ; Mostly stock software ; Mods still work ; Super-thin

Big camera bump ; Earpiece is the only speaker ; No headphone jack

Motorola Moto Z3 Play

The Motorola Moto Z3 Play keeps the dream of Moto Mods alive, but doesn't deliver any stunning new features.

Works with all existing Moto Mods. Rich AMOLED screen. Elegant software build.

Awkwardly priced. Average processor.

The Moto Z3 Play has plenty going for it, including solid overall performance, a capable camera, and support for Motorola's useful modular backs. Unfortunately, it runs into the same problem as the One Plus 6—the US just doesn't have a market for $500...

Motorola Moto Z3 Play review: the thrill is gone

Blue phone blues

Sleek design and premium build quality ; Great software additions ; Works with Verizon, Sprint, AT&T, and T-Mobile

Thin design leaves little room for battery or headphone jack ; Fingerprint scanner is awkward to use ; Battery life is below average, adding a mod makes the phone big and unwieldy

The Moto Z3 Play feels like a baseball team slogging through the last couple of months of play, knowing that they need to finish the season but also knowing they won’t end it with a trophy in hand. Motorola committed to supporting the design of its...

This phone's battery life lasts for two days

Moto can't fight the OnePlus 6 without slashing this phone's price.

The Moto Z3 Play comes with an extra battery pack that gives it two-day battery life. Its take on Android 8.0 Oreo is a pleasure to use, and the fingerprint sensor on the phone's right side is easy to reach.

It's not water-resistant, and there's no headphone jack. It looks outdated with the mod on and costs about the same as faster phones with better specs.

The Moto Z3 Play's two-day battery life is great, but at its current price, it can't compete with the OnePlus 6.

Motorola Moto Z3 Play Smartphone Review

Return of the modular design. Motorola sticks to the modular principle with its Moto Z series and releases the newest generation of the mid-range model in the form of the Moto Z3 Play. Due to the new processor and a dual camera setup, expectations for...

stylish, high-quality case ; good software expansion ; decent GPS accuracy ; expandability via mods ; good AMOLED screen ; no throttling ; decent speaker ; battery mod included

no audio jack ; screen-flickering at low brightness ; high power consumption ; low battery runtimes without mods

There is barely any other manufacturer offering a modular concept similar to Motorola's: LG withdrew from the market for modular smartphones after a single attempt with the LG G5, and the Fairphone 2 is more based on the ability to exchange individual...

moto Z3 Play Prime Exclusive review: An excellent midrange offering with one big gripe

I've been using the moto Z3 Play for the past few weeks and this phone has convinced me that the average user really has no need for a flagship smartphone.

Design hasn't changed much but is still really nice ; Build quality and materials are flagship worthy ; Great AMOLED display ; Snappy performer ; Moto's gestures are actually useful ; Superior battery life especially with included battery mod ; Android...

Power button on the left...so much hate for this ; Camera isn't the best but good enough for average users ; One speaker, though it's not bad for one speaker ; People will miss the headphone jack, I don't ; All glass design may lead to butterfinger...

Listen, there will always be some people that need flagship phones. But many average users don’t want to spend that much money. This is where the moto Z3 Play fits. It doesn’t have flagship specs but it can easily fill the needs of the average user. It...

Motorola Moto Z3 Play Review

This year's Moto Z3 Play is trekking into new territory with its higher price point. Price aside, it's going to take a whole lot for this year's phone to really prove itself in the face of some today's competitively priced flagships...

Camera captures stunning looking photos ; Tons of fun camera modes ; Speedy recharge time ; Premium design

Sluggish performance with graphics processing ; Finger print sensor is constantly being accidentally pressed ; Weak sounding speaker ; $100 increase in price over its predecessor

Moto Z3 Play review – Sweet MODS and infinite battery life, for a price

Two years ago, Moto introduced the first Z-series phones (a pair of flagships) alongside Moto MODS -- batteries, speakers, and other accessories that magnetically latch to the back of the device. Modular handsets were all The Moto Z3 Play is a very...

Moto MODS ; Bundled power pack ; Amazing battery life ; Beautiful display ; Stock Android ; Legacy CDMA support

Expensive ; Lackluster camera ; No headphone jack ; Awkward power/lock key and fingerprint sensor placement

It offers INCREDIBLE battery life. But is it good enough to compete with the OnePlus 6?

Moto Z3 Play review: An unacceptable price for a decent phone

Motorola has changed a lot since the days when it was a Google company. Ah, what a time that was! With the glory days of the Moto X long behind us, it's

Display ; The 6-inch OLED display is 18:9 with sufficient brightness for outdoor use. ; Consistent Mod support ; If you have Moto Mods from 2016 or 2017, they will still work on the Moto Z3 Play. ; Software ; Motorola's version of Android is clean and...

Price ; $500 for this phone is just bananas when the OnePlus 6 is $30 more. ; Included Battery Mod ; The included battery Mod doesn't have its own port, so you can only charge it when the phone is fully charged. It also adds too much heft to be...
