Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra review: big phone, small updates

This might have turned us into S Pen believers.

Fast performance ; Samsung Notes with the S Pen is great ; Multiday battery life

Selfie camera (the “Hamcam”) oversmooths faces ; Expensive compared to non-stylus competitors ; Ads in Samsung apps ; Gigantic with a gigantic camera bump

Samsung’s flagship Galaxy Note 20 Ultra Android phone has improved performance, a better S Pen experience, and cameras that improve on the S20 Ultra. Starting at $1,299.99, it’s an expensive phone that checks every possible spec box.

Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra review

The Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra isn't perfect, but it's close

Versatile camera with excellent video ; Vibrant 6.9-inch 120Hz display ; Solid battery life ; Improved S Pen ; Most powerful Android processor

Pricey ; Huge camera bump ; Facial recognition fails at times

The Galaxy Note 20 Ultra is the most refined and powerful Android smartphone of 2020, but it comes at a pretty hefty price.

Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra Review: Bigger Everywhere

There's a sense of deja-vu around the Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra. Samsung's stylus-toting smartphone won't get to be its 2020 flagship – that honor is reserved for the upc…

Fantastic display with a smooth 120Hz mode ; S Pen remains the go-to tool for mobile notetakers ; Cameras capable of some great photography ; Powerhouse specs

Expensive ; Can't have 120Hz with maximum screen resolution ; Occasional camera autofocus issues ; Battery might not satisfy power users

Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra Review

The Galaxy Note 20 Ultra is the new super-premium S Pen-wielding smartphone by Samsung. It's an extra large phone with a huge camera bump, plus it's heavier than before and it barely fits in a pocket. If you like a big phone, though, this one is among...

Beautiful styling, luxurious feel; Super smooth and snappy performance; Excellent camera quality for both photos and videos (auto-focus issue is fixed); The biggest improvement to the S Pen so far; Outstanding 6.9” AMOLED screen; Cool features like...

$1,300 starting price is a bit too much; Gigantic size might be a turn off for some, no smaller model available; Battery life is just okay, 120Hz takes a toll; No headphones in the box

Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra Review

The Galaxy Note 20 Ultra is Samsung's latest flagship smartphone, boasting a 6.9-inch screen, 108 megapixel standard camera, 5x optical zoom, 8K video, super slow motion video, Pro shooting mode and Raw capture. Take a look at our in-depth Samsung...

Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra review: The pros and cons

The Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra delivers an amazing 120Hz display, powerful cameras and lots of S Pen upgrades to justify its ultra-premium price.

Dynamic 6.9-inch 120Hz display ; Smoother S Pen performance ; Streams Xbox games ; Powerful 50x zoom camera and laser autofocus ; Very good battery life

Expensive ; Camera bump is pretty big ; Curved display can annoy at times

Some may prefer the newer Galaxy S21 Ultra for $1,199. It delivers a faster processor, even better cameras and optional S Pen support. But if you really want the stylus built in I'd go with the Galaxy Note 20 Ultra.

Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra review: Ultimate flagship or ultimate letdown?

The Note 20 Ultra brings 5G connectivity, new Notes functionality and more to the classic stylus-toting flagship. Is it more than 'just another Note'?

Integrated stylus delivers key point of difference ; Great handwriting and notes input ; Massive screen is a delight ; Powerful and fluid operation

Big camera protrustion ; Battery struggles to last a full day ; Zoom camera is unimpressive ; 120Hz display unavailable at max res ; Gimmicky Air Gestures ; Pricey

After nearly 10 years at the cutting edge, the Samsung Galaxy Note series is still on top of its game. Yes, it's easy to see the Note 20 Ultra as "just another Note" - but that's because it's got so much right. It now comes with better note-taking...

Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra review

Ultra beautiful but lacks ultra battery

Bold attractive design ; Great camera system ; S Pen is best-in-class

Mediocre battery life ; Inconsistent heat management ; Palm edge rejection issues

A beautiful phone with a great camera and smart pen integration, though it’s undeniably held back by inconsistent heat management and middling battery life.
