Sony Xperia X Compact review: Time-saver edition

Sony was the pioneer of compact-sized flagships when it first released the Xperia Z1 Compact back in the day. It packed the same flagship-level processor,...

The polycarbonate body changes hue under different angles. ; True to its compact name, it's a joy to use in one hand. ; Display has great contrast and brightness, and class-leading legibility in the sun. ; 23MP shooter is unmatched for detail, has good...

Sony Xperia X Compact review: This small phone's camera will blow you away

The Sony Xperia X Compact packs tons of goodies into a small package.

The Sony Xperia X Compact is a small, 4.6-inch phone with a beautiful display, an excellent camera and good battery life.

Only the Japanese model is waterproof, and the fingerprint sensor is disabled in the US. There's a bit of lag when editing pictures or taking low-light photos.

Sony's Xperia X Compact is a small phone with an excellent camera, but it lacks some creature comforts, like waterproofing and, in the US, a fingerprint sensor.

Sony Xperia X Compact

The Sony Xperia X Compact is a sleek unlocked Android phone you can easily use with one hand, but its price is out of proportion with its size.

Small, lightweight build. Good camera. Expandable storage. Dual-band Wi-Fi and NFC.

Pricey for the specs. Not waterproof. No fingerprint scanner.

Conclusions The Sony Xperia X Compact is a capable midrange phone with a good camera, but at $500, it's priced higher than most of its competition, including our Editors' Choice for compact phones, the Apple iPhone SE. For $100 less the SE gets you a...

Sony Xperia X Compact Smartphone Review

Compact and enduring, but no more high-end. Sony once again offers a Compact version of its flagship smartphone this year. However, the smaller model will have to make do with slower components from now on. Our review shows why this is not necessarily...

very good build quality ; good performance ; long battery runtimes in practice ; USB Type-C ; decent speakers ; good camera ; bright display ; storage expansion via microSD

sensitive glossy surfaces ; comparatively thick chassis ; only USB 2.0 ; slower than the previous models in some scenarios ; no IP certification (water, dust) anymore ; no 4K video recordings

After the review of the new Xperia X Compact, we are a little disappointed that there are no more compact and high-end Android phones. If you want to have the fastest components, you will now have to get a larger device or have a look at the...

Sony Xperia X Compact Review

Sony's Compact line of Xperia phones has been earning accolades ever since its inception back in 2014 with the original Z1 Compact. It seemed that a lot of folks have been clamoring for small, manageable handsets with flagship specs, that's why Sony...

Compact, comfortable to hold and carry design ; Excellent battery life ; Very good outdoor visibility ; Functionally-rich multimedia apps suite

Smallish keys with shallow feedback ; Comes with a third of the internal storage occupied ; Finger scanner not available on the US version

At the sub-$500 price point that Sony is offering the X Compact at launch, there may be more than enough niche demand to justify its release. The only compromise made with the cutie, compared with its predecessors, is the midrange Snapdragon chipset,...

Sony Xperia X Compact Review: Best Small Android Smartphone

There aren't many small Android smartphones with decent specs, so the Sony Xperia X Compact stands alone. Find out if this pint-sized smartphone can compete with the flagship phablets.

Very good battery autonomy ; Modern design ; Display cuts through outdoor glare very well ; Very good battery autonomy ; Modern design ; Display cuts through outdoor glare very well

Not waterproof like Sony's previous compact Xperias ; Dedicated camera key is redundant ; USB Type-C connector supports USB 2.0, but not 3.0 ; Not waterproof like Sony’s previous compact Xperias ; Dedicated camera key is redundant ; USB Type-C...

The hardware keeps the Sony Xperia X Compact out of the flagship space, but it’s still one of the best devices smaller than five inches on the market. Its long-lasting battery deserves the most praise, and we also like its modern design, attractive...

Sony Xperia X Compact Phone is Small But Lasts Forever on a Charge

Sony's Xperia X Compact has a bright, beautiful display that's easily viewable outdoors on a sunny day. The phone's 11-hour battery life impresses, and its compact size makes it easy to hold and use with one hand.

Bright display ; Excellent battery life ; Good for small hands

Camera disappoints in low light ; Sound could be better ; Smudge-prone design

The Xperia X Compact has a beautiful screen and amazing battery life. But its camera doesn't live up to Sony's claims of blur-free photos.

Sony Xperia X Compact review: Small Android is still good, but not much better

Aside from camera tricks, the $499 handset is a slightly sub-par Z5 Compact.

Compact size is ideal for those who prefer smaller handsets. ; Bold, bright display. ; Long battery life will last all day. ; Rear camera produces rich photos with decent detail. Full manual mode is convenient. ; Hands-free selfie timer makes it easy...

Plastic material holds onto fingerprints, making the handset look dirty. ; No fingerprint sensor in the US. ; Handset isn't waterproof like the Z5 Compact. ; Cannot shoot 4K video.

The death of Sony's Xperia Z branding implies that the X was meant as a new, fresh face for the company's smartphone offerings. But the X Compact shares a lot in common with its predecessor—like the Z5 Compact, the X Compact is a good smartphone, but...

Sony Xperia X Compact review

The Sony Xperia X Compact is designed for people who still want a small phone without a lot of compromises, and while this phone can fulfill that need very well, it unfortunately comes at a premium that most people may not be willing to pay.

- Small compact form factor ; - Bright display ; - Front-facing speakers ; - Good battery life ; - Great camera ; - microSD expansion ; - Fast performance

- No fingerprint sensor(US version) ; - No dust and water resistance ; - Premium price
