Orange Monte Carlo (ZTE Skate)

The Orange San Francisco was the smartphone bargain of the year... until now.

Exceptional value for money ; Uses the latest version of Android ; Excellent 4.3in touchscreen ; HD Voice & Signal Boost compatible

Performance poor out the box ; Orange software awful

Aggressive is the reason ZTE has been experiencing phenomenal growth, and the Orange Monte Carlo offers bang for your buck that is unmatched elsewhere. For £149.99 the spec list is simply stunning, and the complaints of patchy performance, limited...

A big Android phone for small cash

With a big screen and glossy styling, the ZTE is great value. But fast, it ain’t

Orange Monte Carlo review

Can Orange's new low-cost Android handset match the San Francisco?

Large screen ; Capable processor ; Good media streaming ; Good battery life

Screen hard to see in bright sunlight ; Low resolution video recording ; No Flash support ; MicroSD card fiddly to get at ; No bundled headphones

When Orange released its San Francisco, we were bowled over. It was a great handset for a budget price, and it continues to be the standard by which we evaluate any Android phone that hovers around the £100 mark.

ZTE Skate Review: In Depth

It's fair to say that the ZTE Blade, or more accurately the subsidized and re-branded Orange San Francisco, took the low-end of the phone market by surprise. A 3.5” 800x480 AMOLED display bundled…

Decent screen ; Improved build quality over Blade/San Francisco

Expensive ; Sluggish performance ; Poor battery life

A great screen belies this handset's low price - poor battery life aside, it's an impressive budget handset

Orange Monte Carlo Review: In Depth

The Orange Monte Carlo has just ridden in to town, eyeing up all those fancy pants dual-core Android phones as it does so. The Monte Carlo is the follow up phone to last year's Orange San Francisco;…

Orange Monte Carlo review -

The huge 4.3-inch TFT display and the very latest Android Gingerbread OS

You'll need big pockets to carry it and there are too many unnecessary Orange apps hogging the memory

ZTE Skate vs Orange Monte Carlo comparison

A month or so ago I did the review of the Orange Monte Carlo and I really liked the handset as for the price tag of ?149 plus ?10 top up on the Orange network, it is an awesome deal! So this is just a simple comparison between that phone...

When talking about media I mean things like Music playback, video playback etc and if like me you are used to how good an iPhone 4 is at these tasks you tend to expect a little much from other smartphones. Both the Skate and Monte Carlo perform well...

ZTE Skate review

Smartphones such as the Apple iPhone 4S and Samsung Galaxy S II dominate the high-end market, but there is plenty to play for when it comes to mid-tier devices, and ZTE is an emerging Chinese manufacturer looking to make a name for itself.

Big screen, unmodified Android Gingerbread, reasonable price

Susceptible to lag, poor battery life, bland design

A basic Android Gingerbread device with a large screen and reasonable specifications, the Skate is designed for buyers on a budget but is not really suited to heavy duty use

Orange Monte Carlo review

What makes a good phone: a large touchscreen? A physicalkeyboard? A particular operating system? We can get awfully elitistabout which factors convince us to open our wallets, but for manythe answer is far simpler: cost.

A stunning feature set for the price breaks new ground in thesmartphone sector

Mediocre performance is not helped by Orange's awful, laggyAndroid skin and pointless apps
