Recommended with reservations.

Before purchasing the Breville Conical Burr Grinder Model BCG450XL, I was using a cheap Cuisinart blade type grinder for my coffee. Burr grinders are much more efficient at grinding coffee then blade types, but I'm not sure if this Breville model is...

Several settings for different grinds; accurate results; solidly built

Expensive; timer not useful; hard to maintain & clean

CoffeeGeek - Breville BCG450XL Grinder - Ash Furrow's Review

This is my first non-whirly-blade grinder.

Does a really nice grind for press coffee. It's mostly easy to clean. Looks sharp in a sort of pseudo-industrial Kitchen decor

When switching granularity, there are stale beans caught in the inner workings that are pushed out, so you get some stale espresso grinds in your press and vice versa ; The grinds you get on "espresso" or even "turkish" settings are laughable. Don't...

Buy it!

I have used this grinder every day for at least two years. It is my first grinder so I have nothing with which I can compare it. I use a Keurig single cup machine and only brew one cup at a time. I also use a Breville Cafe Roma espresso machine almost...

A good grinder indeed

After having several, ahem, difficulties, with other bean grinders, my husband and I decided to purchase this product. It was kind of a splurge for us so thank goodness it does such a good job.

Easy to use

Tricky to clean

I have bought a BCK450XL grinder 3 months ago, I liked it so much that I bought another one for my girlfriend.

Consistent grind size, good choice in grind size

Not enough time on the timer to grind lets say, a 12 cups coffee maker

CoffeeGeek - Breville BCG450XL Grinder - Joel Schulz's Review

I challenged Breville on the box claims of Turkish and Espresso. This was their reply.

Ground coffee is consistent and uniform, not much static or mess. Grind fineness is suitable only for Percolator, Cafetierre (French Press), or Filter, nothing finer

Espresso setting too coarse, Turkish setting too coarse for even espresso. Avoid for espresso based and turkish coffees

CoffeeGeek - Breville BCG450XL Grinder - Scot Murray's Review

I purchased this grinder at a local kitchen supply place with the expectation that I'd be moving up in the world of espresso gear. I knew that the whirly blade would definitely not cut it in terms of proper espresso machines.

The grind appears to be fairly even and consistent ; It was the most reasonably priced grinder with conical burrs I could find ; Simple, intuitive operation, easy to clean up after grinding ; It might be a great grinder for drip, press pot or similar,...

1, as seen in other reviews: Doesn't grind fine enough for (certain) espresso machines ; I always unplugged it when not using it as it seemed to warm up when plugged in but not in use
