Why Won't a 2.4ghz Phone work near a 900mhz Baby Monitor?

I haven't reviewed anything for a while, but I feel I must step forward to nail this turkey. What I thought would be a nice stop-gap while I looked for an appropriate 2-line expandable 5.8ghz phone has turned out instead to be a lame waste of money ...

Inexpensive for the features provided.

Incompatible with at least one brand of 900MHz baby monitor. May not actually be 2.4GHz
