Zotac Zbox ID42 Plus review

Zotac's new tiny HTPC crams in a Celeron CPU, Nvidia GPU and a 500GB HDD. Will it play nice?

We want to like the Zbox ID42 Plus, as it does almost everything it's designed to do rather well. Its design means it would look at home underneath most modern flatscreens, and its impressive array of connections and smooth HD video playback makes it...

Wonderful little box

My only regret was that I didn't buy 2 or 3 at the price it was offered. I'd love to have one as a set-top box in the living room.

Quiet, cool and does what I ask of it. Bought this machine for a Linux install to act as the router/firewall for my home network. Also serves as a media server, file server and secondary browsing machine. Clearly its no gaming rig but for what I have...

It is not a fanless case so at some point I know the fan that is in it will give out.

Looks like they have a problem with power supplies..

Put the voltmeter on the power supply output and it read 0 volts. No wonder the power button doesn't work... To Kevin with Zotac, I'd like to talk with you..

None since it won't power on.

Like the other reviewer, my power supply was DOA.

Update

Received my replacement today (original power adapter was DOA). Works great, installed Windows 8 in under an hour. Display switches quickly between Windows 8 native 'Start' and the more familiar Desktop view once the video card driver is installed. The...

No cons as of now.

Like fish at Al's Diner, Not So Good!

Hopefully Zotac will just send me another power supply without needing me to RMA this entire unit...

It looks pretty on my desk. It would be a great value, if...

Power supply DOA. Was ready to install Windows 8, and it will not power up. Checked output with a volt meter, no volts.

Zotac ZBOX-ID42 Barebone

Great compact design, very powerfull graphics card. Work well with OpenElec XBMC. All remote buttons work well, even has a soft power off and on.

Not totaly sillent like some of the other ZBoxes, but still very quiet.

Zotac ZBOX-ID42 Barebone

Just the perfect option for a HTPC (virtually silent with an SSD), it even came with an IR remote. Far exceeded my expectations following some problems on forums - principally the ID42 just dying out of the blue. It's handled absolutely everything I've...

Some could argue that it's a tad expensive for essentially a media player - I'm happy to pay this premium and it's actually good value for money in the expensive HTPC market.
