Sleek Canon a Convergence of Bangin’ Stills and Lush Video

With the EOS 5D Mark II, Canon has figured out how to seamlessly meld video and stills. A mighty Digic 4 processor and full-frame 21-megapixel sensor are only two if this beautys superior qualities.

Although some aspects of the spec (AF, metering) are looking a little long in the tooth, the superb image quality and class-leading movie output should ensure the Mark II is as popular as its predecessor. The numerous smaller improvements are welcome,...

Excellent resolution, very close to Sony Alpha 900 (and essentially the same as EOS-1Ds Mark III), Very good High ISO performance, almost as good as Nikon D700 / D3, Wide range of ISO settings from 50 to 25600 (with 'ISO Expansion' enabled) and useful...

AI Servo (continuous AF) not as good as EOS-1 series or Nikon D700, Default noise reduction quite heavy at anything over ISO 400 (can be turned down though), JPEG output a bit soft when viewed at 100%, Still pretty average automatic white balance in...

Canon EOS 5D Mark II In-depth Review

Back in August 2005 Canon 'defined a new DSLR category' (their words) with the EOS 5D. Unlike any previous 'full frame' sensor camera, the 5D was the first with a compact body (i.e. not having an integral vertical grip) and has since then proved to be...

How do you follow a classic? That's the question Canon faced when it got to work producing a successor to the EOS 5D. The original 5D was the first 'affordable' and lightweight (in relative terms) full frame camera, and set a standard for low noise at...

Canon EOS 5D Mark II review: Canon EOS 5D Mark II

Editor's note, October 9, 2012: In light of changes to the competitive landscape, we've decided to adjust the rating of this camera by dropping the features subrating from 9 to 7. Though it's still an excellent camera, its 3-year-old feature set can't...

Excellent performance and photo quality; good video capture capabilities and quality.

No built-in wireless controller; large spot meter; no built-in flash; more direct controls would be nice; AF system could use an update.

A great follow-up to the 5D and top-flight full-frame camera, the Canon EOS 5D Mark II delivers the fluid shooting experience and fine photos you expect from a professional model.

Review: Canon 5D Mark II

One of the first digital SLRs to record video, the 5D Mark II also delivers terrific image quality and low-light performance.

Kick-ass 21 megapixel, full-frame sensor. Full HD 1080p video. Weather-resistant enclosure. VGA resolution LCD display. Sexy parkerized finish

Good luck getting one if you didn’t pre-order. Annoying black spots with certain settings. Noisy at super-high ISO range. 4GB movie size limit

Canon EOS 5D Mark II

The Canon EOS 5D Mark II was quite possibly Canon's most highly anticipated Digital SLR ever, and the scramble to get in a preorder line insured that very few 5D IIs would be found in stock any time near their first availability date in early December...

Canon EOS 5D Mark II Review

"It if ain't broke, don't fix" it seems to have been the key aim of the Canon engineering team when designing the 5D Mark II. It's outwardly almost identical to its predecessor, sharing exactly the same dimensions (152 x 113.5 x 75mm), and same weight...

In terms of other key features, the comparison between the 5D Mark II and its main competitors is a little less clear-cut. The design of this new version hasn't substantially changed since the 3-year old original 5D, which could be viewed either as a...
