Image quality

Canon PowerShot A300

Excellent image quality; inexpensive; VGA movie mode; fast continuous-shooting mode; autofocus-assist lamp; uses standard AA batteries.

No optical zoom; short flash range; barrel distortion around edges of pictures; saves only JPEG files.

Budget buyers who don't need a zoom lens will get their money's worth in features and picture quality from the A300.

Canon Powershot A300

The Canon A300 proposes to offer the entry-level solution to digital camera users new to the field. Packed with a host of features and a 3.2 mega pixel CCD sensor, this little camera produces good pictures but is flawed by some silly mistakes in its...

Macro mode to 5cm

Small screen, can’t synchronise optical and digital zooms

Overall as a starter's camera this is an okay place to start. At £200 canon offers a camera that is good on the image side of things, but let down by a few annoyances on the design side. It would be nice to have an optical zoom on this model as well as...

It is a well laid out camera (although a little 'boxy' to look at) and is easy to use. Macro mode is effective, it shoots at 5cm from its subject and produces good close up images. It does have some manual settings including ISO settings, Exposure...

Canon PowerShot A300 Review

The shutter speed range of the A300 is among the widest in its class with a maximum shutter speed of 1/2000 second. Combining this speed with the lens's f/5.6 minimum aperture setting makes the A300 ideal for daylight photography and fast-moving...
