Canon PowerShot A95

Replacing the PowerShot A80 in Canon's vast arsenal, the PowerShot A95 is a powerful 5MP compact camera and a good buy; point-and-shooters won't soon outgrow it, and it will also satisfy more advanced users.

Excellent image sharpness, colors, and bright exposure. Strong flash. Good battery life. Ability to store custom settings saves time.

Bulky and heavy. Very slight purple fringing in high-contrast areas. Lens angle could be a bit wider. Disappointing movie capabilities.

Canon PowerShot A95 review

Canon PowerShot A95 Canon's 5-megapixel PowerShot A95 steps up as the capable successor to the highly popular A80 . As the A series' momentary flagship model, the A95 offers simplicity for entry-level photographers, a versatile feature set for...

Full feature set for its class; impressive photo quality; quick access to important settings via Function button; accepts accessory lenses; underwater housing available.

Stiff CompactFlash slot cover with flimsy hinge; grip may be uncomfortable for larger hands.

When it comes to features and image quality, this camera is at the top of its class.

Canon PowerShot A95 Review

Announced in August 2004, the PowerShot A95 replaces the hugely popular A80 at the top of Canon's entry-level range. Although it shares many features with the A80, the new model sports several significant improvements (including some also found on the...

Excellent resolution Clean, sharp images Excellent color reproduction Reliable focus and exposure systems Comprehensive range of features Much improved screen Easy to use Good burst (continuous) shooting mode Easy handling Excellent flash exposures,...

Some purple fringing problems Inability to deal with wide dynamic range on very bright days Focus can hunt and is not particularly fast No TIFF or RAW mode Flimsy CompactFlash compartment door Quite noisy at ISO 200 and 400 Zoom is not very smooth -...

Canon has taken a popular camera and added just enough to make it even better. It's questionable whether you really need the extra million pixels for 'snapshots', but the results in this test show that the A95 has the optics and processor needed to...

Digital Cameras - Canon PowerShot A95 Digital Camera Review, Information, Specifications

The PowerShot A95 is one of the few digital cameras that just seem to get everything right, with very few weaknesses. In virtually all respects (color, resolution, image noise), its images are good to excellent, and its range of features and...

Canon PowerShot A95

It's hard to improve on a camera that was already excellent, but Canon has managed to add a few nice features (most notably the LCD). Is the A95 even better than its predecessor? Find out in our review

Very good photo quality ; Flip-out, rotating LCD display (now larger and sharper!) ; Tons of manual controls ; AF-assist lamp ; LCD usable in dim lighting ; Support for conversion lenses, underwater case ; Tons of new scene modes ; Can save favorite...

Redeye ; No diopter correction knob ; No rechargeable batteries included ; Flimsy plastic door over CF slot ; Can only print the date on photos at 1600 x 1200 resolution ; Movie mode not so hot in 2004

I highly recommend the A95 and expect it to sell at least as well as the A80 did in the last year. For those stuck between the A75, A85, and A95, it really comes down to one thing: the rotating LCD. You most likely don't need the extra resolution of...

Canon Powershot A95 Digital Camera Review

With an estimated 53 million digital cameras sold in 2004 and 15% growth rate for the foreseeable future, manufacturers will continue churning out models to meet every photographer's need.

Great image quality ; Lots of creative controls ; Simplicity of a point and shoot ; Good battery life

Mediocre movie mode ; Focus and shoot is relatively quick, but could be faster ; No RAW image mode to capture images w/o compression

The quality of the images is superb. The size and weight of the A95 finds a great blend between a solid feel and compactness. The range of control options (auto controls, scene modes, manual controls), allows the beginner to jump right in taking...

This model has a good set of features, but it suffers from mediocre image quality and its ridiculously large size. Give it a miss unless your other interests include bodybuilding.

Nice set of features, moveable LCD, great battery life

Huge, heavy, blurry image edges
