Canon USA Powershot G3 Digital Camera Camera

WHAT'S HOT: Having greatly admired its predecessor, the PowerShot G2, we had great expectations for the 4-megapixel PowerShot G3--and in most respects it didn't disappoint us. It takes great shots in nearly all settings, though the 5-megapixel Olympus...

The G3's photo-stitching mode (found on several Canon models)helps you line up several vertical or horizontal shots so you can later combinethem, using included software, into one very tall or very wideimage

This model represents a modest incremental improvement on an excellent predecessor, the PowerShot G2.

Canon PowerShot G3 Digital Camera (Canon-8120A001)

The PowerShot G3 rates as a minor update of the very good G2, but other cameras have seen more significant improvements. We like the G3's picture quality and sophisticated features, but it still has room to get better.

The original three megapixel PowerShot G1 was announced at Photokina 2000 (September 2000), just less than a year later (August 2001) they announced the four megapixel PowerShot G2 with a fairly significant range of improvements. A year after that at...

Some chromatic aberrations at or around maximum aperture Noise at ISO 100 worse than the competition 'Shallow angle jaggies' visible on resolution chart, although not yet seen in 'every day' shots Viewfinder partially obstructed by lens barrel Control...

Canon PowerShot G3

The PowerShot G3 is an updated version of Canon's extremely popular, four-megapixel Powershot G2 camera. Improvements in the new Powershot G3 begin with its exterior. It has a larger handgrip and the control layout was re-designed for easier access to key

Canon PowerShot G3

After a bit of a delay, I finally got a production model PowerShot G3! Judging by all the e-mails asking me what was taking so long, I can tell that there is a whole lot of interest in this camera

Excellent photo quality in most situations ; Amazing expandability in terms of lenses, flashes ; Super fast performance ; 4X zoom a nice change from the usual 3X zooms ; Impressive movie, playback modes ; Has an AF illuminator lamp ; Tons of manual...

Redeye worse than expected (even with repeated tests) ; Strange chromatic aberrations (rare, but annoying) ; Images not as sharp as the very best 4/5 Megapixel cameras ; Diopter correction knob difficult to operate ; Lens blocks view from optical...

So I hope this helped somewhat in your decision making!

Canon Powershot G3

Canon's G3 announced at Photokina 2002, caused many to believe that Canon had shot too low with its high-end compact digital camera offering. Some nine months later and the camera has already been superseded by a five million pixel version.

Officially cheaper

Lacks the Ixus Compactness; already superceded

Overall the Canon G3 is a very good camera only marred by its size. Image quality was good both up-close and landscape (see deer right). Of course this has now been superseded by the G5, but if you aren't fussed with the option of a longer digital zoom...
