Canon PowerShot SD1100 IS Digital Camera

Sleek design, superb image capability and intuitive controls make the SD1100 a solid buy.

Fast start-up, focus, and shutter ; Maximum aperture of f2.8

Lacks a true wide-angle lens ; Hard-to-find manual features

Despite a few minor issues, the SD1100 IS is a joy to use, and it produces superb photos for its class. If you can get by without a truly wide-angle lens, you'll be more than happy with the SD1100 IS. And, man, does it look cool

Canon PowerShot SD1100 IS

The PowerShot SD1100 IS adds a few new features to its Editors' Choice predecessor, but the SD1000 still can't be beat in terms of image quality and shooting flexibility.

Little noise at high ISO settings. Image stabilization. Optical viewfinder. Antireflective LCD.

Function button is flat and hard to find by touch. Wide-angle lens is not as wide as the SD1000's. ; Watch the Canon PowerShot SD1100 IS Video Review!

Canon SD1100 IS Digital ELPH (IXUS 80 IS) Concise Review

The Canon Powershot SD1100 IS (IXUS 80 IS in Europe) is as fresh off the Canon engineers' drawing boards as it can get. It was announced only a few weeks ago for the PMA trade show in Las Vegas and already has made its way into the basement vault which...

Very compact body, Decent edge-to-edge sharpness, Clean results at low ISO settings with bright, print-friendly color 'straight out of the box', Accurate and reasonably quick focus (although slightly slower in low light), Good responsiveness and...

Battery life when using LCD not brilliant, Slightly underpowered built-in flash, Little manual control, Poor Auto White Balance performance under artificial light, Pretty noisy at any sensitivity above ISO 200 (decent detail retention though), Some...

Canon Digital IXUS 80 IS Review

At the start of the millennium, Canon's original Digital IXUS cameras were the super models of the digital compact world; looking as good as they performed, their popularity seemed a sure bet. But time has moved on, rivals have got slimmer, smaller...

The Canon Digital IXUS 80 IS can perhaps best be summed up as an undemanding snapper for the unpretentious imagemaker and as such is largely beyond criticism, save for some fiddly controls inherent in a camera with a height and width (if not depth)...

Canon PowerShot SD1100 IS Digital ELPH Digital Camera - Review - The Imaging Resource!

The Canon SD1100 IS Digital ELPH includes an eight megapixel 1/2.5" CCD imager and a Canon-branded 3x optical zoom lens with image stabilization, which covers a fairly standard range of 38-114mm equivalent -- a moderate wide angle to a moderate telephoto

Optical image stabilization ; DIGIC III image processor just like the big boys ; Facial detection for portraits and to confirm those smiles afterwards ; Small, sleek body design ; High resolution LCD ; Good performance figures, especially for a bargain...

Flash washes out extreme macro shots ; Moderate chromatic aberration at wide angle ; Soft corners at wide angle ; High contrast in harsh lighting ; Flash takes just under 10 seconds to recharge after full-power shot ; Very small MMC card included ;...

Exposure is fully automatic, but the user can tweak it with 2.0EV of exposure compensation and four metering modes to handle difficult lighting, including a mode which ties metering to the camera's face detection system

Canon PowerShot SD1100IS Camera Review

The Canon PowerShot SD1100IS camera is a popular, attractive point-and-shoot camera. It's small and has plenty of features for the price, but a larger, slightly more expensive camera might be a better bet. In this digital camera review, find out what...

Canon PowerShot SD1100 IS Digital ELPH Review

The biggest feature on that list is definitely image stabilization. It's really the only thing the SD1000 was missing, and I think everyone's glad to see this new feature

Very good photo quality (in good light) ; Stylish, ultra-compact metal body; comes in five colors ; Optical image stabilization ; Snappy performance ; Sharp 2.5" LCD has good outdoor and low light visibility ; Optical viewfinder (a rarity these days) ;...

Noisy images in low light; some NR artifacting at low ISOs in good light ; Corner blurriness and purple fringing an issue ; Zoom setting not shown on LCD ; Flash a little slow to charge ; More manual controls would be nice ; Flimsy door over memory...

All things considered, the PowerShot SD1100 is a quality ultra-compact camera. It offers good photo quality, snappy performance, and image stabilization in a sleek, stylish metal body. Sure, there's room for improvement, but I'm yet to review a perfect...

First Looks: Canon Digital IXUS 80 IS

Canon's latest IXUS 80 IS is one of the better compact cameras in recent times with its blend of performance and value.

As the new entry-level model in the already popular IXUS family, the 80 IS is almost perfect, especially with its S$429 price tag representing a new lower price point coupled with added features and a form factor that's negligibly larger than its...
