Canon PowerShot SX260 HS Review

The SX260 HS fills a very small niche. It's a great travel cam: It's sturdy but (relatively) small, and the GPS feature is a great addition to travel photography.

The SX260 HS fills a very small niche. Yes, it’s a point-and-shoot, but its $350 price tag means that the extras you’re paying for have to be specifically worth it to the buyer. It’s a great travel cam: It’s sturdy but (relatively) small, and the GPS...

Canon PowerShot SX260 HS Review: Another Top-Notch Canon Pocket Zoom

Thanks to a hard-to-beat combo of very good image quality, a generous optical-zoom reach, ease of use, and flexible shooting options, every iteration of Canon's PowerShot SX line seems to end up at the top of our pocket-megazoom cameras chart. The...

Well-stabilized 20X zoom lens (25mm to 500mm) ; Very good image and video quality ; Wide array of options for any level of shooter

No RAW mode ; Mediocre battery life, especially with GPS Logger

The 20X-optical-zoom PowerShot SX260 HS does many things well. It's as close as a compact camera can get to being "one size fits all," thanks to very good image quality and a great mix of options for novices and experienced photographers.

Canon PowerShot SX260 HS Review

A non-GPS model known as the PowerShot SX240 HS is available in certain countries.

The Canon PowerShot SX260 is a travel zoom camera that packs a 20X zoom lens into a compact and stylish package. The lens is probably the highlight of the camera, with an impressive range of 25 - 500 mm. As with other cameras in this class, the lens is...

Canon PowerShot SX260 HS

The Canon PowerShot SX260 HS delivers an impressive 20x zoom ratio and very good image quality in a compact package. Integrated GPS is a boon for geotaggers, but the camera's video prowess and high ISO performance aren't best in class.

Compact. Sharp, long zoom lens. Integrated GPS.

1080p video captured limited to 24fps. Loss of detail at high ISOs. Priced on the high side.

Performance and Conclusions The SX260 did quite well in speed tests. Superzooms generally take a little bit longer to get going than standard compacts, as there is more time required for the larger lens to extend from the body. The SX260 HS starts up...

Canon PowerShot SX260 HS review

The Canon PowerShot SX260 HS replaces last year's SX230 HS , updating its lens from a 14x 28mm wide-angle lens to a 20x 25mm ultrawide-angle one. It keeps the 12-megapixel backside-illuminated CMOS sensor, but gets the new Digic 5 image processor,...

The Canon PowerShot SX260 HS has shooting modes for every type of photographer from casual to advanced, a useful long zoom lens with excellent image stabilization, and overall excellent photo and video quality for a compact megazoom.

The SX260 HS' menus and controls can take some getting used to, it's got a short battery life, and photos get noticeably softer-looking indoors or in low light.

The Canon PowerShot SX260 HS' wider, longer lens, a few much-needed design tweaks, and excellent photo quality add up to one pretty great compact megazoom.

Canon PowerShot SX260 HS Review

If you can swing the $300+ price point of the Canon PowerShot SX260 HS, beginning and intermediate photographers will find quite a few nice options with this camera. The 20x optical zoom lens is a great feature, and color accuracy in images is very...

Good mix of easy-to-use features and manual setting options for beginners and intermediates ; 20x zoom lens is great to see in such a thin camera ; LCD is very bright and sharp, easily can be viewed in sunlight outdoors ; Color accuracy quality is very...

Camera's autofocus can be a little slow in low light ; Overall response times can be a little sluggish ; Mode dial has a few odd choices on it ; Seems like there's some redundancy in the easy-to-use modes ; Battery can drain quickly with GPS activated...

The Canon PowerShot SX260 HS camera is a new travel-zoom camera that replaces the SX230 HS model. There's a longer 20x, 25-500mm optical zoom lens with a built-in 4-stop image stabilizer and Intelligent IS technology, 12.1 megapixel back-illuminated...

Canon PowerShot SX260 HS

Among Travel Zoom digital cameras, the Canon SX260 HS stands out not just for its 20x zoom lens, but for its quite complete range of controls and impressive image quality, allowing output of 16 x 20-inch prints with ease.

20x zoom ranges from very wide to ultra telephoto; Wide range of exposure settings, including Manual, plus many auto modes; Full HD video at 1080p; Video autofocus and zoom while shooting, HDMI interface; Very good image quality; Built-in GPS

Tight control placement; Low battery life; Soft corners at wide angle; Small front fingergrip; No live histogram. No raw mode

We felt very comfortable using the Canon SX260, confident that what we saw on the LCD viewfinder was what we were capturing on the memory card. Still pictures were very consistent: perfectly exposed, sharply focused, displaying great detail and good...
