If there is such a thing as a camera with too many automatic features, the 9-megapixel Casio Exilim EX-Z250 might be it. This ultracompact is brimming with detection, recognition, and preset shooting options to the point where the camera's Auto mode...

Slim, lightweight, and attractive; lots of auto-shooting features; wide-angle stabilized lens.

Slow performance; flat controls might frustrate some; soft photos.

Loaded with convenience features including a near-ludicrous 37 scene-shooting options, the Casio Exilim EX-Z250 is the auto-lovers' ultracompact.

Casio Exilim z250

While the Exilim z250 has a lot going for it, including a sharp LCD screen and great video capture, it suffers from uneven image quality.

Records standard-definition video in widescreen (16:9) format. Sharp 3-inch screen. Low amounts of noise at high ISO levels. "Makeup level" is a fun feature.

Soft, unevenly focused images. Noticeable shutter lag. Strong amount of color fringing.

Casio's EX-Z250 has a ton of preset modes to make it easier for just about anyone to take a nice-looking picture. If you are easily frustrated by gadget controls and settings, the EX-Z250 is for you. And it takes nice pictures, too.

When it's time to take pictures, no one wants to fuss over camera settings. It's especially frustrating when you have to set up a point-and-shoot camera. After all, aren't you supposed to be able to simply "point and shoot"?
