Fujifilm FinePix A201 review: Fujifilm FinePix A201

The 2-megapixel FinePix A201 sticks with a formula that has long characterized Fujifilm's entry-level digicams: It's highly compact, the feature set is downright minimalist, and it can take surprisingly good pictures. But the camera does have some...

Shirt-pocket size with built-in lens cover; bright LCD; simple operation; good image quality in daylight.

No optical zoom; weak low-light performance; some important functions accessible through LCD menu only; very few manual options.

This is a fun, affordable camera for weekend shutterbugs. But you may quickly outgrow its short feature list.

Fujifilm FinePix A201

I started by taking the Fujifilm FinePix A201 ($249 list) on a cocktail cruise around my favorite lake—Lake George, in the Adirondacks region of New York. Passing the camera around after each shot was definitely a party pleaser. But on closer...

Fuji FinePix A201

The A201 has a fixed-focal-length lens, equivalent to a 36mm lens on a 35mm film camera. Focus is also fixed, covering a range of approximately 10 inches (256mm) to infinity in normal shooting mode. (A Macro switch next to the lens allows you to focus...

Fuji FinePix A101/A201

The FinePix A101 and A201 are essentially the same cameras, so I'm reviewing them together. The major difference is that the A101 is 1.3 Megapixel, and the A201 is 2.1 Megapixel

Small, easy to pocket ; Accurate color ; Menu system intuitive, easy to use ; Can be used for videoconferencing - though Windows only

Shutter lag ; LCD too dark ; Digital zoom only ; Chromatic aberrations (purple fringing) evident in many pictures ; Playback mode could have more features ; No sound in movie mode

The FinePix A101 and A201 are decent, but not great, entry-level cameras. My personal rule is to skip over entry-level cameras, and get something a little more "midrange". For a few dollars more ($279), you can pick up Fuji's FinePix 2600 Zoom, which...

A great little camera that just won't quit

The Fuji Finepix A201 was my first digital camera which I got in December 2001. Up until then, I had been using my Pentax 35mm SLR for most of my photography, as well as a Polaroid point-and-shoot 35mm camera for something that would fit in my pocket ...

Compact, lightweight, durable, extremely easy to use, remarkably good pictures

Very limited controls, poor video mode, poor low light performance, no longer made

Gets the job done

I was looking for a cheap used digicam, and found this on ebay for $40. On highest resolution and quality, the pictures appear quite grainy, as does every other digital camera I've used. Camera is lightweight, 8 ounces with batteries. It feels ...

Takes normal AA batteries and SmartMedia, standard USB connector

Could have been designed smaller, USB doesn't power unit when downloading pictures

I love my Fujifilm Finepix A201 Digital Camera (updated)

About a year and a half ago, my boyfriend bought me this camera for my birthday. I didn't want anything fancy, I'm not a professional photographer, but I love to snap shots of just about anything. I was previously known to be a terrible waster of film,...

Easy to use, sturdy, good quality pictures (at least for what I use them for).

Not a camera for a professional photographer. Video is hard on both batteries and memory.
