Kodak Pegs the Point-and-Shoot Market

There's a lot to like about the Kodak EasyShare DX4900 ($399 list). This 4-megapixel digital camera is one of the easiest-to-use models we've tested. It's also a fast shooter with image quality that is just shy of spectacular, and you can upload images...

kodak Easyshare DX4900 Camera

WHAT'S HOT: Kodak's $399 DX4900 is the least-expensive 4-megapixel camera we've seen so far. And despite being a high-resolution model, the DX4900 Zoom is geared toward casual users who want a camera that's easy to use. Like other Kodak cameras, it...

You can set the shutter speed, but you can't manually set the aperture. The camera includes some basic controls, such as white balance and image compression levels, which are well-labeled in the menu. The camera includes buttons for...

Kodak DX4900 Review

The Kodak DX4900 was announced two days before PMA 2002. The DX4900 is essentially a 'resolution upgraded' DX3900, in the place of that camera's three megapixel CCD the DX4900 has a four megapixel unit. The DX4900 has the same two times optical zoom...

Good colour Good automatic white balance under a variety of light Easy to use design, simple control setup Silent lens mechanism (no extension, focus or zoom noise) Good manual control (for an entry-level) - WB, ISO, exp compen., sharpness, metering...

Nasty mechanical power switch, loud 'CLUNK' from lens cover Visible purple fringing (chromatic aberrations?) on overexposed details Poorly positioned CF eject lever Long lag times for LCD live view Poor CF write performance (>13 sec no matter what...

Digital Cameras - Kodak DX4900 Digital Camera Review, Information, Specifications

Camera Operation With just a few control buttons and only a handful of exposure controls, the DX4900's user interface is uncomplicated, just as its EasyShare name would suggest. Flash, focus, and Self-Timer modes all feature external controls, as do...

Equipped with a 2x, 7.3-14.6mm lens, the DX4900's optical zoom range is equivalent to that of a 35-70mm zoom on a 35mm camera. This is a range from a moderate wide angle to a slight telephoto. Maximum aperture ranges from f/2.8 at full wide angle to...

Two Cheap Four Megapixel Cameras - HP Photosmart 812 / Kodak EasyShare DX4900

I didn't actually come up with the idea of doing this comparison until I had started writing the Photosmart 812 review. Then it hit me: hey, I've got two inexpensive 4 Megapixel cameras that also have docking stations. Why not combine the two

If you don't get the dock, you're stuck with throw-away lithium batteries. If you get it, you get four 1600 mAh batteries. Since the camera only uses two of them, that's not a bad deal. HP did not provide any numbers on battery life, but it didn't seem...
