About the size and shape of a cigarette case, the stainless steel–encased Minolta DiMage X ($400 street) is a slim, stylish, 2-megapixel digital camera. But packed inside this ultralight exterior is a sophisticated camera capable of taking...

Minolta DiMAGE X Review

Just when you thought a 2 megapixel, 3x optical zoom digital camera couldn't get any smaller Minolta turn things on their heads (literally) and produce the diminutive DiMAGE X. This shirt-pocket sized digital camera is just 20 mm thin (0.8 in) and 84 x...

Folded optics produces artifacts, soft images and reduced resolution Vignetting of images shot between wide and mid-zoom focal lengths Location of lens opening could lead to accidental blockage Images have a 'video camera' look No control over internal...

Digital Cameras - Minolta Dimage X Digital Camera Review, Information, Specifications

Overall, I was very impressed with the Dimage X. I honestly hadn't expected a lot, as ultra-compact digicams seem to require a lot of compromises. Much to my surprise, the Dimage X took great photos under a wide range of conditions, offered a decent...

This review has now (3/18/2002) been updated to "finished review" status, as I've now managed to review a full production model of the Dimage X. I have to admit I have a tendency to fall in love with each new innovation in the digicam marketplace, so...

Three Small 2 Megapixel Cameras - PowerShot S330 / DiMAGE X / Coolpix 2500

The three cameras I'm looking at here are all 2 Megapixel cameras with 3X optical zooms. All of them are small and stylish, and two of them are really quite unique. I will cover each camera in several areas, pick a a winner in each area, and than an...

The only real thing to comment on is the rather skimpy 8MB CompactFlash card. I would have liked to see something larger, considering just how cheap CF cards are these days. I'd recommend at least a 32MB card

Minolta Dimage X

According to Minolta the Dimage X is 'the smallest, lightest and thinnest 2.0 million pixel digital camera in the world.' (in digital cameras with 3x optical zooms, as of 14.12.200) More of this on Minolta's web site, which we won't reproduce here.
