Konica Minolta DiMage Z5

This superzoom has a striking design, balanced body, and rugged feel.

Good image stabilization. Unique, balanced design.

Image quality suffers in low-light shots. Somewhat slow recycle time.

Konica Minolta Dimage Z5 (black) review

Konica Minolta Dimage Z5 (black)

Effective Anti-Shake image stabilization; 12X zoom lens; manual exposure controls; versatile burst mode; excellent macro capabilities.

Some problems with photo quality; coarse EVF.

Effective image stabilization and a big zoom in a small package are appealing--as long as you're not fussy about image quality.

Konica Minolta DiMAGE Z5 Review

Excellent handling and operation, Very effective Anti-Shake system, Fast and responsive in use, Very fast focus - and generally very accurate too, Generally good color, good white balance in daylight (though see cons, below), Excellent range of...

Visible noise at even low (100) ISO settings, ISO 320 setting virtually unusable, Images look a bit soft, need sharpening in post-processing, Images can be over-contrasty - losing highlight/shadow detail in bright conditions, Occasional mild color...

Like the other DiMAGE Z series cameras before it, the Z5 is a rewarding and responsive camera with well-designed and implemented feature set. There are other 5MP cameras offering a similar zoom range (and image stabililzation) at a similar price point,...

Konica-Minolta DiMAGE Z5 review

Surprisingly soon after introducing the DiMAGE Z3, Konica Minolta announced the introduction of the Konica Minolta DiMAGE Z5. Of course the Konica Minolta DiMAGE Z5 now offers more Megapixels; it offers five Megapixels to be precise. One of the main...

The Konica Minolta DiMAGE Z5 certainly draws attention to itself. And not only because of its appearance. That does seem strange at first glance, but it turns out to be a great model which lies comfortably in your hand. On the whole the camera is...

Konica Minolta DiMAGE Z5 Digital Camera Review: Intro and Highlights

The Konica Minolta DiMAGE Z5 digital camera is the latest in a long line of Konica Minolta digital cameras featuring uncommon innovation, aggressive pricing, and superior optics. The original Minolta Z1 (before their merger with Konica) was their first...

Konica Minolta DiMAGE Z5

Everything else is the same as the Z3. That means that there's a 12X optical zoom lens, Minolta's exclusive Anti-shake image stabilization system, full manual controls, a hot shoe, and a VGA movie mode

12X optical zoom lens ; Anti-shake image stabilizer ; Blazing AF performance in good light ; Full manual controls ; Supports wide-angle conversion lens and external flash (Minolta only) ; Large 2" LCD display ; Good redeye test performance ; Excellent...

Soft images at default settings; noise levels a little above average ; Poor low light focusing; no AF-assist lamp ; Lens is on the "slow" side compared to competition (read: Panasonic, Sony) ; EVF resolution is lacking ; Smaller shutter speed range...

The DiMAGE Z5 gets my recommendation, though only with the in-camera sharpening turned up a notch. If Konica Minolta could work on the image softness and low light focusing on their next ultra zoom camera, I think they could have a real winner on their...

Konica Minolta DiMAGE Z5 Digital Camera Review
