Nikon 1 J3 Review

The Nikon 1 J3 is worth a look for point-and-shoot users looking for an upgrade, but photo enthusiasts and power users will be left wanting more.

The ILC segment represents an interesting design challenge for camera manufacturers. They are a step-up from point-and-shoots, but a step-down of DSLR cameras – designing a camera to appeal to both types of users is a difficult task. With the Nikon 1...

Nikon 1 J3

The Nikon J3 compact interchageable lens camera is a speedy performer, but it isn't the best in low light, and lacks expansion options when compared with the competition.

Compact. 60fps burst shooting. Zero shutter lag. Innovative shooting modes. 921k-dot display. Quiet.

So-so kit lens. Some loss of detail at high ISO settings. No EVF or external flash support. Limited lens selection.

There's no Wi-Fi built into the camera, but you can add it by purchasing the WU-1b Wireless Mobile Adapter ($59.95). It plugs into the USB port on the side of the J3, so it does add some bulk, but makes it possible to transfer images to your...

Some noticeable noise in all images ; Program mode images did not compare to Auto mode ; Very weak pop-up flash ; No hotshoe for external flash ; No input for external audio

The Nikon 1 J3 is a compact system camera featuring a new 14.2-megapixel “CX” format sensor and the Nikon 1 lens mount. Boasting continuous shooting speeds of 15fps with continuous autofocus and 60fps with fixed-point autofocus, Full 1080p HD video...

In what must be one of the quickest releases in recent memory, the new J3 replaces the previous J2 model after a mere 4 months on the shelves. Featuring the same 14 megapixel sensor as the flagship V2 and a more simplified control layout than the J2,...

Nikon 1 J3 Review: Simple, Small, and Slick

Conclusion I enjoyed using the Nikon 1 J3. I like its small size, light weight feel and its modern, sleek appearance. The camera's buttons and controls, while small, work well and I appreciated the dedicated movie button. I was not fond of the camera's...

Nikon 1 J3

The Nikon 1 J3 is a compact SLD with a unique 14 megapixels sensor which provides ultra-fast Phase-Detect autofocus, continuous shooting up to 60 FPS and full 1080p HD video. The J3 packs this into an very compact and sturdy body which features a...

Ultra-fast autofocus until very low light, Excellent metering, Realistic image colors, Good white-balance, Instant shutter-lag, Virtually no blackout, Quick and responsive

Above average image noise for a mirrorless, General image softness, Limited dynamic range, Limited lens selection, Very few direct controls, Short battery-life, AF and MF sounds get recorded during video

The Nikon 1 J3 is an impressive mirrorless camera that delivers a unique performance compromise. Image quality is good, considerably better than the majority of compact cameras, while not matching that of state-of-the-art mirrorless models. In terms of...
