Nikon Coolpix AW100 is good rugged choice, but not without limitations

 

A slow lens keeps this high-end tough camera from being a better low-light performer.

The ; has good rugged specifications for its price and solid GPS performance. The camera is also fairly easy to use out of the box.

The AW100's slow lens requires more use of high ISO settings or slow shutter speeds. Its controls feel spongy and occasionally unresponsive due to the waterproofing and the body's somewhat slippery.

The rugged Nikon Coolpix AW100 is a fine choice for shallow water or dry land adventures -- just make sure you have plenty of light.

The Nikon Coolpix AW100 is a rugged point-and-shoot camera that, while a bit on the pricey side, captures sharp images and can take quite a beating without a hiccup.

Sharp photos. Waterproof to 33 feet. Shockproof to 5 feet. Full HD movies. Action button. Fast performance.

Pricey. So-so low-light performance. Limited zoom range. Focus issues while recording video.
