Canon PowerShot G15 vs Nikon Coolpix P7700

The Canon versus Nikon debate has been around for almost as long as Coke versus Pepsi or dogs versus cats (well, maybe not quite). Both manufacturers make excellent cameras, but that hasn't stopped people from choosing sides. Naturally, we here at...

The Canon PowerShot G15 and Nikon Coolpix P7700 are two cameras with a long lineage (with the Nikon's being a bit harder to follow). The Canon PowerShot G-series and Nikon's competitive offerings have gone through numerous variations over the years,...

Nikon Coolpix P7700

The Nikon Coolpix P7700 has the longest zoom lens of any point-and-shoot camera in its class, but the lens should be stopped down to increase sharpness.

Excellent control layout. 7.1x zoom lens. Fast aperture lens. Very good high ISO performance. Hot shoe.

Lens is a tad soft at f/2. Slow shot-to-shot time. No optical viewfinder or EVF option.

Despite a rather high asking price, there aren't many non-imaging functions built into the camera. The Samsung EX2F has built-in Wi-Fi, which isn't even an add-on feature for the P7700. You can use an Eye-Fi memory card with the camera, and there is...

Nikon Coolpix P7700 review

As with Canon's G series of cameras, I'm really struggling to identify the particular needs that models like the Nikon Coolpix P7700 serve. I can only arrive at them by process of elimination: you want better photo quality than a $250 point-and-shoot...

A comfortable shooting design and nice photos in bright light number among the strengths of the Nikon Coolpix P7700 .

The P7700's performance is sluggish, and despite being the largest camera in its class it no longer has an optical viewfinder.

It's a solid enthusiast "compact" that will please a lot of shooters, but the Nikon Coolpix P7700 doesn't quite deliver at midrange ISO sensitivities and its image-processing overhead might annoy impatient photographers.

Nikon Coolpix P7700 Review

The number of high-end fixed-lens cameras aimed at intermediate and advanced photographers is growing, including the Nikon Coolpix P7700. Image quality is outstanding with this model, and it performs especially well in low light. Although most other...

Excellent image quality with large image sensor ; Low light results are outstanding ; Good optical zoom measurement versus other fixed-lens, large image sensor models in this price class ; Response times are fast in all conditions ; Full auto mode is...

Camera is a little chunky ; Power button can be a little tough to press because of small size and location between various dials ; Some dials hang over the edge of the camera, meaning you may bump them out of place inadvertently ; Close-up focus can be...

Nikon Coolpix P7700 Review

The Nikon Coolpix P7700 is the new professional model in Nikon's extensive range of Coolpix compact digital cameras. The Coolpix P7700 is the successor to the one-year-old P7100, the main additions being a back-illuminated 12-megapixel, 1/1.7-inch CMOS...

The new Coolpix P7700 is the best prosumer Nikon compact camera to date, now offering a more flexible vari-angle LCD screen, Full HD movies and a faster lens, not to mention a new 12 megapixel image sensor, quicker 8fps burst shooting, remote flash...

It's taken three tries but Nikon has finally produced a flagship Coolpix camera that stacks up well against its main competitor's class-leading cameras. No, the Nikon Coolpix P7700 isn't perfect and it still only uses a 1/1.7-inch sensor compared to...

Nikon Coolpix P7700 Review

The Nikon Coolpix P7700 is a behemoth. It's huge, it's bulky and it's intimidating. But it is so deliciously feature packed that we can't seem to let go of this camera. We love the P7700 and given its price, it's probably the best camera for anyone...

Nikon Coolpix P7700 Review

The Nikon Coolpix P7700 occupies the top spot in the Coolpix line both in terms of quality and price.  While most Coolpix cameras are relatively simple point and shoots, made for quick snapshots, the Coolpix P7700 has much more to offer.  It has a...

Camera Review: Nikon Coolpix P7700

Nikon takes a step forward with its latest flagship compact camera, but is this Coolpix still playing catch up?

Simpler, more original camera design; faster to use overall; nice, new 7x zoom lens with maximum f/2 aperture at the wide end; finally offers full 1080p HD video shooting; gorgeous, high-resolution, side-swiveling, 3-inch LCD screen

Still has some performance issues particularly when shooting RAW images; mediocre focus performance in bad lighting; no optical viewfinder; average low-light performance for a camera in this class

No, the Nikon P7700 is not going to knock your socks off when stacked up against something like the Canon G1 X and its large, nearly DSLR-sized sensor but that camera is $300 more expensive and considerably bulkier than this new flagship Coolpix model....
