Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ100 Review

Despite stellar specs, Panasonic's Lumix DMC-FZ100 takes noisy still photos and poor-quality video.

Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ100 review

Full-size megazooms, especially the pricier ones, are generally viewed as bridge cameras--something more than a point-and-shoot, but less than a digital SLR. However, the Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ100 is really the only megazoom I've tested in the past...

Outstanding feature set and shooting options; fast shooting performance.

Menu system can get confusing; JPEG photo quality tanks at ISO 400.

As long as you're willing to work with raw image files, the Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ100 is one of the best full-size megazooms you can get.

Review: Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ100

Hybrid shooters don't have to be awkward. No one bothered telling that to Panasonic.

Mode wheel has very distinct indents so the camera doesn’t accidentally switch modes. Li-Ion battery rather than AAs. Stereo microphone. Nimble RAW shooting

Poor image quality above ISO400. Electronic viewfinder is a throwaway afterthought. Expensive

Lens hood blocks edges of images at wide end of zoom ; Flash is not powerful enough for the lens range ; Large for a compact camera, even for a super-zoom camera

Excellent white-balance, Low optical distortion, Generally remains responsive, Fast autofocus speed, Quick shutter lag, Awesome LCD visibility, Quite good usability, Above average battery-life

Image noise at all ISO, Prone to overexposure, Strong softness above ISO 200, Poor color accuracy, Poor focus in low-light, Slow shot-to-shot speed, Tiny EVF, Play button too flush
