Panasonic Lumix DMC-TS1

The Panasonic Lumix DMC-TS1 is built for abuse, but in our tests this ruggedized shooter didn't quite live up to expectations.

4.6x wide-angle lens. 720p AVCHD video capture. Intuitive interface. HDMI port.

Image quality drops significantly at the outer edges of the frame. In our tests, water leaked into the battery compartment, resulting in some internal rusting. Zoom slider only worked sporadically after several trips to the beach.

Panasonic Lumix DMC-TS1 review

The Panasonic Lumix DMC-TS1 is the company's first attempt at a rugged compact camera and, generally speaking, it's a success. The camera isn't as impervious to shock and the elements as some of the competition; it is waterproof up to a depth of 10...

Well designed; very good performance, photo, and video quality.

Expensive; soft photos.

A full-featured waterproof/shockproof pocket point-and-shoot, the Panasonic Lumix DMC-TS1 is a near-perfect rugged camera for everyday use.

Panasonic Lumix DMC-TS1

In conclusion, the Panasonic DMC-TS1 may just be the perfect point-and-shoot camera that can go anywhere the photographer does. While it is more rugged than other models on the market, you should still take care in this point and shoot as it can still...

Panasonic Lumix DMC-FT1 Review

The Panasonic Lumix DMC-FT1 (also known as the DMC-TS1) is a new waterproof, shockproof and dustproof digital camera designed for use by all the family. The Ft1 can be used underwater to a depth of up to 3 meters and is drop proof from a height up to...

In the Panasonic Lumix DMC-FT1 we have a take anywhere, use (almost) anywhere pocket camera that combines sophistication with resilience; if we look back at the toughened likes of Fujifilm's Big Job and even Canon's recent pug-like PowerShot D10 we'll...

Review Of The Panasonic Lumix DMC-TS1 Camera

The TS1's feature set is very similar to the company's non-rugged FP8. It has two operating modes; the AE mode called Normal Picture gets you the most control over results with settings for focus, light metering, color effects, white balance, ISO, and...

Smooth in design; good performance; superb photo and video quality; HD movie capture, a wide-angle lens, and a long battery life

Photos are not sharp, prices are a bit steep

The TS1 qualifies for both a rugged as well as an everyday pocket camera. It may be priced at $399.99, but the TS1 is something that you cannot judge by looking at the price tag. Panasonic have really pulled a rabbit out of the hat here with the TS1....

Panasonic Lumix DMC TS1 Digital Camera Review

A detailed review of the rugged Panasonic Lumix DMC TS1 digital camera. This tough cookie is a master of both worlds - a hard shell to protect itself from dust, water and shocks, and a sensitive and flawless lens system to produce nearly perfect...

The provided 3.6-volt, 940mAh lithium-ion battery (DMW-BCF10PP) lasts for around 300 shots, which is quite above average for this class of cameras (around 220-250 shots).

Panasonic Lumix FT1 Review

At first sight, Panasonic's FT1 looks the nearest rival to Olympus' mighty Mju 8000. It's a similar size, weight and shape and is also waterproof, shockproof and operable down to -10 degrees.

Panasonic Lumix DMC-TS1 Waterproof Camera Review: My Favorite So Far, Oddly

It's not the most rugged, waterproof, or compact of its kind. And its photos aren't the best. But for some reason I really like this camera. Maybe I'm wrong.

did better). Images, overall, were second best to the Canon with its traditional lens system, but this camera doesn't have that problem of a protruding snout which makes it a lot more pocketable. The camera has optical stabilization, which is pretty...

Panasonic Lumix DMC-TS1 (DMC-FT1) [Review]

So far Canon and Olympus have launched water-resistant cameras, each of which can be dunked down to 10 metres, along with shockproof and dustproof features.

I enjoyed my time with the FT1 but felt there were a few things design-wise that were less than ideal: the external controls were very small and less than legible, with text labels embossed onto chrome buttons making them very hard to see above water...
